I borrowed this book from a friend after spotting it on his bookshelf. The story revolves around a NY socialite Jo Slater who is left pennyless after her husband leaves everything for his mistress. Jo Slater is a cunning character who is not ready to give up on her life and will go to any extent to get her status back. She plots a scheme to take revenge and get her money and status back in the society. Jane Hitchcock's writing is really good in the beginning and so is the story.
However, towards the end it becomes a bit typical. The story started out strong and Jo is portrayed as a strong character, however towards the end she looses her charm. I was really enjoying the book, I mean it is not too intense. Being a socialite Jane Hitchcock does know a lot about the social life and it is evident from her writing. Overall it does make a good revenge themed high society book.
