“I’d like to thank my father for installing a broadband internet connection in our home, my little brother for instantly shifting off the computer which I ask him to, and the makers of Galaxy chocolate for providing brain-power through such delicious chocolate. But most importantly I’d like to thank my fellow MS members! Thank-you, thank-you so much for spending some of your precious time in RRCing my modest reviews. Aap longo ke pyaar, trust aur comments ke vajah se hi main aaj yahaan pe itne saare reviews likh rahi hoon. Aasha hai ki aap sab issi tarah mujhe pyaar (ya nafrat) dete rahenge…”

My award is being able to reach my 24th review! Yay! Writing award-winning speeches is so much fun. And it’s funny. And its good practice for when I actually win my first Filmfare ;)

Speaking of awards, on the 26th March I was very lucky to be able to watch the Zee Cine Awards live in London. Not only that, but I had VIP tickets! It was sooo amazing, and got to see a lot of stars up close (and I won’t go into a lot of detail coz I could go on for days…). After the show finished, I saw a very pretty girl with very long hair and a gorgeous dress walk past me. It took a while to sink in that she was Ayesha Takia, of Dil Maange More and Tarzan the wonder car fame. And she did not look very happy. I don’t blame her – she had just lost the best new-comer award to Gayatri Joshi. But then she did get the IFFA. And she spoke as if she deserved it.

I thought she was really good in DDM, and I really wanted to see how she would be in her next film – Socha Na Tha. I watched the promos, which looked interesting. But I didn’t actually get to watch the film till last week. I borrowed a VCD. And then the next day they showed it on tv. Just a typical waste of Rs20…but at least I get to write a review on it ;)

The Movie

I know the movie is not brand new, but it definitely worth a watch. It’s a Dharmendra Presentation, starring newcomer Abhay Deol (Bobby and Sunny’s cousin) and not-so-newcomer Ayesha Takia.

The Story

Viren’s (Deol guy) family want him to get married and settled. They have found the perfect girl for him – Aditi (Ayesha Takia). But Viren already has a secret girlfriend who he has not told his family about – Karen, who is Christian.

But Viren eventually agrees to see Aditi, just for the sake of it. The families get along really well, and everyone seems so sure that they are going to get married (their kundalis match well). Aditi is asked to take Viren to her room, so that they can talk to each other. She tells him that if he wants to reject her, then he should do it today itself, coz otherwise her aunty gets very stressed. Viren tells her that he was going to say no, but only because he has a girlfriend. They both get talking and get along very well with each other. At the end of their conversation they shake hands and say good luck to each other. Someone from Aditi’s family sees this, and presumes that something’s happening between the 2.

But then that very evening the rejection comes. After that the families start fighting. A lot!

Aditi and Viren meet again coincidentally. He asks her to meet Karen and see what she thinks of him, because he had been waiting to propose to her. After a lot of lie-telling to parents, Aditi ends up accompanying Viren and Karen to Goa. In between all the singing and dancing, everyone can see that something is actually brewing between Aditi and Viren!

After coming home, Aditi’s family find out that she had been meeting Viren. A lot more arguing takes place between the 2 families. On the other side, Viren finally proposes to Karen, and succeeds in getting her parents to agree to the marriage. His brother and bhabi have to put a lot of effort into getting his parents to agree. When they finally do, he realises that he actually loves Aditi!

What happens in the end? Who marries who? You’ll have to watch the movie to find out…

The Acting

Ayesha Takia does a nice job with her character of the sweet and understanding Aditi. She’s constantly smiling, except towards the end, when things get a little more heated.

Abhay Deol was good as well. His acting seemed naturally confused :)

The girl who played Karen was a bit weird, but everyone else was fine – Ayesha Jhulka, Suresh Oberoi and everyone else.

The Songs

Socha Na Tha was a nice tune. Abhi Abhi was shot well and was melodious as well. The Karen- proposal song was a bit too long. Music was different and refreshing, like the movie.

The movie’s first half was amusing, the second half dragged a bit, but the ending was a change. Thanx for reading and please feel free to comment (I did mean all the things I said in my beginning speech)!
