Sometimes unattractive and hideous things can also be appealing. 'Slumdog Millionaire' directed by British director Danny Boyle, is a great example of the statement. It stars Dev Patel, Frieda Pinto, Anil Kapoor, Irfan Khan and a bunch of other Indian actors.

Everyone who hasn't seen this film, wonders what is in this film that it is being awarded and honored so much internationally. Believe me, this movie deserves all the wins and nominations it has earned. So what's so special?

Slums They are ugly.

Poor kids Who wants to watch them in a movie?

Beggars Something that we see everyday. What's new about them?

Slums, where half of the Mumbai's population lives, are not ignorable . Poor kids too have their own stories and is same with beggars. The biggest and the greatest thing in this movie is its story. A story about how an underdog, a street beggar, a 'chai walla' wins something which even the most high minds cannot achieve.

Dev Patel is Jamal Malik. He has won One Million Rupees (or One Crore) in 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire'. But he has been accused of cheating he has allegations of knowing all the answers.

He gets under police custody. He receives electric shocks, slaps and physical torture. The Police Inspector wonders what can a slumdog possibly know?

The Answers.

The film is crafted in a beautiful way. The movie shows how he knows each answer. Every answer has a story in his (Jamal's) life. It is a story how a boy, nothing short of an illiterate, answers questions which are even not known by the doctors, service workers, engineers!

Apart from story, movie's editing is mind blowing. Movie has a fast pace without going out of track. Cinematography is awesome, and slums are shot beautifully. Sound is Amazing. You can distinctly hear sounds produced by razor in a barber's shop, swinging of fan, smoking of cigarette and so on.

Music is one of the best works of A.R. Rahman. O Saya builds a brilliant atmosphere, and Jai Ho gives a great ending to the movie. Best part of the soundtrack is 'Mausam and Escape' which really is brilliant piece of music.

And for the people who are crying, shouting about movie's depiction of India as a slum This movie has not depicted India as a slum. Moreover, it is not about India or India's slum. It is about a boy who lives in slum. The story could take place anywhere. Mumbai's slums are just used as a background in the movie. I assume that those people who haven't seen this movie, are saying such things.

India is a diverse country, so the movie shows India in its two colors One of ugly slums and one of beautiful Taj Mahal. Overall, I think do not listen to those people who are criticizing this movie. This movie is really a brilliant experience. Highly recommended. Do not miss it.
