First things first , as a courtesy ... Congratulations to this movie for achieving whatever it did.
NOW , this review might be slightly one of the most harsh ever from me , as well as offensive, so the lovers of this flick , please avoid and turn to the next review in the slot. Also , there are many things I wanted to add in this space but lack of it is forcing me not to. So , please dont mind any left-outs.
I would like to raise a few questions abt it .... most important..WHAT ARE WE SO HAPPY ABOUT??
Is it the naturality of bitter India which is portrayed?
Is it the OSCAR only?
Is it Hollywood's interest towards the Indian slums?
Or is it the limit to which we can be embarrassed in the world and still smile about it?
I seriously did not understand any of this and I was so damn offended throughout that I am feeling happy to have seen it on DVD and not wasted my money , time and energy in going to the theatre.
What a shame depicted to its core !!!! May I raise an eyebrow on the censor board firstly for not "Beeping " all those abusive terminologies and that too in "desi - hindi" ? Were they sleeping or have they also been FED already ????
I was ashamed so much that again I was feeling proud to have seen it alone on my lappy and not amongst hundreds. Why the full movie still being translated in English , those words were left as they were? Leme tell you , only to show what we Indians are capable of...Nice try haan !
Some say , Indian cinema standards are getting an appraisal...OH ! so this is the way you would like your country to get an appreciation in the society , where even our cricket team is being addressed as, " The Happy Slumdogs Are Here ! " Woah ! what a remark , including a huge comment on the living standards and the stupidity of our people. And see , we are so happy about it !!!!
I can not still digest or forget a very particular hit on Indian mindset . When the elder boy , Salim , takes an American tourist to the visit to a "Dhobi- Ghaat" and meanwhile all his mates takes away every its and bits of their Mercedes. On return , he acclaims , " You wanted to see the REAL INDIA ? This is it !" and to that , the very American tourist lady replies , " And you want to see the REAL AMERICA ? Honey( to her husband) , give him the money ". Can any remark be more shameful than this ?
All those other scenes where heights of shameless-ness and its extents are shown , I am pretty sure everyone is aware about. Especially that Amitabh Bachchan scene and the way these beggars are created. I wonder if Danny Boyle did find anything good in India at the first place?
SO , arnt we being ridiculed big time all around the world ? I was suprised and embarrased to hear that Obama has wished to see it at his place. I was wondering what will he tell his kids.
I agree that its the true India which is shown and we should accept it.. NO , I am not offended with the content , but I am with the way it it shown. It seems as if this country is just and just full of s**t and slums and nothing else! And certainly , there was nothing in it which made it so much appreciative in Oscars. Can I feel something fishy there then? Well , WHO KNOWS ! And who wants to know , coz all we bother is Oscar ...and thats it ! Neither have we got any shame left , nor we have any self- esteem. Wake Up Guys... And see..... the whole world is laughing at us !!! And they will be heard for long this time.
I am not ready to criticise or appreciate any actors who have worked in this movie , coz for me , it was a shameful act for all those who agreed to be a part of it. So , even if they have acted well , its sad to see them in it only for name , fame and money.
N.B. - I am not sorry for being unable to like and appreciate the efforts made in making this movie , but I can not see my country being shown in an absolute ridiculous , embarrassing , not completely true and shameful way .
I wonder what will come next !
