Sleepless in Seattle is a spectacular movie by Tom Hanks. It rates right up there at the top of the charts with Big and Money Pit! Sleepless in Seattle is a family type movie that will move kids and adults alike. In this 105 minute, PG rated Comedy-Romance the kids will thrive on and relate to the drama instigated by the young actor, Ross Mallinger who plays Jonah Baldwin.

This one is a need to own movie for Tom Hanks fans! I do not own a copy of this one, because my son does. This entitles me top unlimited viewing! It is one of his favorite all time movies (second only to a few musicals!). If you have a copy, pull it out again to enjoy the romance and adventure, if not, it is worth making time to rent today!

The plot opens with Sam Baldwin (Tom Hanks) trying to deal with the death of his wife (Carey Lowell). He has a wonderful eight-year old son, which means he also must come to terms with single parenting. Young Jonah, (Ross Mallinger), in an attempt to help his father, puts Sam to the test in this movie.

The story really begins with young Jonah, still dealing with the loss of his mother, wanting his father to be happy, etc. He calls a national radio talk show to try to find someone who is willing to be his father’s partner. As a young child, this is very realistic, the feeling that everything will be solved and life will be happy and normal if he can fix it.

The plea Jonas makes on the radio show is heard by hundreds of women including Annie Reed (Meg Ryan). Though Annie never mailed her letter to Jonas father, a friend posted it. Annie was to be married soon, but had doubts and felt that this story somehow touched her heart and that she had to know if Sam was the right person for her. After traveling to Seattle, she decides that he is not the right person. Jonas however decides based on her letter (which he intercepts) that she is the right person for his father and to become his step-mother.

Young Jonas arranges a flight (a little unrealistic for the time) to meet Annie on the roof of the Empire State Building of New York City. His father realizes what is happening and that Jonas is going to New York, immediately after he leaves. He follows Jonas to bring him home. He finds him, what follow is a chance encounter on the way out and the two fall in love as Jonas planned.

This story line is very simplistic but was acted and directed amazingly. This is truly one of the best performances by both Hanks and Ryan. Young Jonas is very convincing, which adds to the appeal of the movie. If you have not seen it, rent it. If you are a Tom Hanks fan, you probably already have this one in your collection...It is a must own!
