I really understand the way skype is appreciated to reduce ISD bills expecially for people abroad.
Skype beats yahoo 2 to 1 in usability and flexibility. But I really don’t understand why
cant they make this a better tool for free users who want to use video chat. The two most common words you will know when you use skype will be CALL DROPPED and CALL FAILED. this will happen how ever good your internet is, I use a 12 MBPS line(yeah megabytes per seconds not megabits per second) which is extremely high even when compared to US standards, but I have never been able to keep up the call on for more than 25 or 30 minutes on skype.
It is basically the lack of service quality in these tools. but most people think oh yeah it is free or oh yeah it is cheaper than spending 2 cents a minute and go for it. Yes I understand it is free or cheap to use and reduces ur ISD bill. but as a freeware it sucks, this doesnt only suck all CPU and memory from your computer but also is a reason in blue screens in windows as you would just get from searching blue screen skype in google and lo you would get like a million forums cribbing about the same
It really has given me nothing except for a head ache. gone are the days where we used to pay 50 cents a minute to call to india from US. these are cheaper days where airtel and reliance gives the service for 4 to 6 cents a minute. For calling to india skype today charges 9 cents a minute without VAT. with vat it charges 10 cents a minute. obviously what would you prefer? SKYPE? or some other calling card.?
Below are the rates for per minute charges.(well I have seen a few hidden charges in a few but nothing to impact the price in a major way)
Airtel - 5.5 cents,
Reliance 6 cents,
bsnl - 4 cents,
indiald - 2.2 cents
Bharti - 5 cents
SKYPE - 9 cents without the VAT
Now you choose guys.
If you want to use a web cam and voice chat better use yahoo it is a more stable product and it usually is tested in latest windows versions before even releasing beta.
