The Rapid is Skoda’s budget offering to the Indian customers. The C-segment sedan was first introduced in 2011 and since then, there has been a slew of special editions, option packs, updates and facelifts to help the car rally itself against the competition. With another facelift on the cards, the Rapid seems to be eager to make a case for itself.
The Rapid has typical sedan proportions – long hood, twin cabs and a befitting boot. Unlike its sibling, the VW Vento, the Rapid has slightly rounded lines and a front fascia that reminds us of the Skoda Fabia. The typical moustache like radiator grille is flanked by the bulbous blacked out headlamps. If you opt for the Black package, the roof will be painted in black along with the wing mirrors for an extra cost.
The Skoda rapid is powered by the new 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine from the VW group. The new four-cylinder engine develops the same power as its 1.6-litre predecessor but is more efficient and delivers 21.1kmpl. You can opt for the five-speed manual gearbox or the six speed automatic DSG gearbox options. The petrol Rapid is powered by a 1.6-litre MPI engine which develops 103bhp of power. The four cylinder petrol is also offered with both manual and automatic options, like the diesel, but the automatic in this case is the seven-speed DSG.
The Rapid competes in the highly competitive C-segment where it fights with its twin, the VW Vento along with the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz and Honda City.
