The new Skoda Rapid 2016 facelift comes with updated exterior design philosophy and an updated 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine. The Skoda Rapid price is expected to be in the range of INR 8 lakh to INR 12 lakh ( ex-showroom Delhi) .
Skoda Auto, the Czech car manufacturer, has confirmed the launch of the new Skoda Rapid 2016 facelift in the Indian car market on 3rd November, 2016. The India spec new Rapid facelift will be similar in design to the one available for sale in the European markets while the mid-size sedan will continue to be powered by the same petrol and diesel engine options as the outgoing model. The UI Skoda Rapid was first introduced in the Indian car market in 2011 and the launch of the new Skoda Rapid will mark the first major update for the car in India.
The new 2016 Skoda Rapid facelift will come with updated exteriors as well as interiors while the car is expected to get an updated 1.5-litre TDI diesel unit which does its duties on the Volkswagen Ameo. On the exteriors front, the new Skoda Rapid will come with the familiar butterfly grille that is reminiscent of all the latest generation Skoda Auto cars. The front grille is flanked by projector headlights, LED daytime running lights and a sculpted new front bumper. While the side profile of the car still remains the same, the car sports a new alloy wheel design. The rear profile of the car gets updated rear taillights along with redesigned rear bumper and a boot-lid integrated spoiler.
On the interiors front, the new Skoda Rapid facelift will come with an updated dual tone black and beige cabin layout. Inside the cabin, the car gets a multi-functional 3-spoke steering wheel, MID unit for the instrument cluster, touch-screen infotainment system and leather upholstery for seats and other interiors panels. The new Rapid facelift will be feature rich and is expected to come with dual front airbags, park-tronic rear parking sensors, hill hold control, ABS with EBD, ESC ( Electronic Stability Control) , Climatronic – automatic climate control system, rear AC vents, electrically adjustable external mirrors with turn indicator, cruise control system and rain sensing wipers among others.
The new Skoda Rapid 2016 facelift will continue to be powered by the same petrol engine along with an updated diesel unit. The petrol variant will be powered by a 1.6-litre MPI four-cylinder petrol engine that is capable of producing 103 BHP of maximum power along with 153 Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the oil burner will be powered by an updated 1.5-litre TDI diesel unit that produces 108 BHP of maximum power along with 250 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options on the petrol variant will include a 5-speed manual and 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox while the diesel variant will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission along with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The new Skoda Rapid facelift is expected to be priced in the range of INR 8.25 lakh for the base petrol variant while the top end diesel automatic is expected to be priced at INR 12.5 lakh ( ex-showroom Delhi) .
Feature-wise, the new Skoda Rapid sedan will be equipped with host of features such as a new touch-screen MirrorLink infotainment system, automatic headlamps along with auto dimming IRVM, reverse parking sensors with camera, and rain sensing wipers. Emphasizing more on the safety factors, the refreshed Rapid sedan now comes will sport dual front airbags & ABS as standard along with Electronic Brake-force Distribution ( EBD) , Brake Assist ( BA) , Electronic Stability Program ( ESP) and Hill Hold Control.Under the bonnet, the facelifted version of Rapid will be offered with a choice of petrol and diesel engines. The petrol unit will be powered by a 1.6-litre MPI four-cylinder petrol engine that will be good for 103 BHP and 153 Nm of power figures while an updated 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine can develop 108 BHP of maximum power and a peak torque of 250 Nm. The Transmission duties will be taken care by a 5-speed manual and 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox for the petrol mill whereas the oil burner will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox along with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.
Likely to be priced in India in the bracket of INR 8 lakh – INR 12 lakh ( ex-showroom) , the new Skoda Rapid 2016 will heat up the segment by competing against Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Volkswagen Vento and the likes.
