There are several online storage solutions, but very few of them come free. Yahoo's briefcase with 30 MB has been the best free solution available to most. With monstrous mailboxes from the likes of google, yahoo and rediffmail (hotmail will be giving 250MB soon), one also has the option of mailing files to oneself when in need of online storage.
The only problem commonly faced with such solutions is the file size limit on each upload. no common mail/briefcase provider seemed to allow greater than 10MB in a single upload, forcing you to split files. Thats when I came across skizzle, a feature-rich online community. Skizzle was originally meant to be a paid service, but most of its features are now free.
Skizzle provides an online briefcase with unlimited storage and no file size limit! Though I use skizzle only for their briefcase, they also provide messaging, online clubs, forums, personal wealth management, personal health management, an online journal, and a host of other features. In short, its a complete online personal assistant.
Skizzle is supported by their premium club promotions model. It isn't exactly the most reliable or bountiful source of funds though, and is one of those overzealous initiatives that emerged from the dotcom boom. Its not known how long the free services will continue, so if you're looking for a long-term storage solution, you'd be better off looking elsewhere. Try https://xdrive.com.
