A new married CID officer is handed over a suicide case, which has been reopened as a suspected murder. This proves to be a big task, as the case takes a personal turn, with his wife being dragged into it. Can he come out victorious?
P Vasu, after Apthamithra, has been associated with a certain genre of films, which mixes commercial drama with horror and thriller elements. His mix of supernatural with the mundane with copious amounts of mass elements has always been lapped up by fans. Shivalinga, too, offers all that is expected, with some surprisingly good performances.
The film has two romantic stories. While one is of a murdered Muslim cook, whose Hindu fiancee seeks justice, the other other is of the protagonist and his newly wed wife, an arranged marriage. There's a link that connects the two stories, which is revealed as the story progresses.
The story, given its supernatural setting, has enough chills and thrills, while the Sadhu Kokila comedy plot plays an funny parallel track, managing to give ensure some breathing space between those tense moments. Another entertaining track is of Urvashi's, who is Shivarajkumar's mother and also a celebrated TV cookery show host.
The film does have a few shortcomings, like some unnecessary songs that seem too long and maybe a few fight sequences that last longer than expected, but those can be overlooked given the entire package
