We had a short 3 day singapore trip in april. I got it arranged by a local travel group, but having gone there, I think, it's not at all necessary. one can book the whole tour oneself.
We went by air India by overnight flight, and they served black label scotch! At Singapore, we were put up in little india, in a shabby hotel called Fortuna, which is under renovation, it has no complementary breakfast. there's a travel desk at the hotel, which can arrange your tours if you arrive without prior booking. all tours are half day, so that you can book two tours for a day with them. they will take you by a mini van around, drop you at the site, and pick you back.
as soon as we arrived there, we headed to mustaffa center, where I purchased a JVC handicam. (btw, I would never recommend sony) later I came to know that, it cost me 20% more. never buy anything costly from mustafa. for cameras, go to shops that sell exclusively cameras, they have all brands, more selections, latest models, and prices are cheaper. at Changi airport, while returning, I could see lot of selections in JVC handicams, and it was much cheaper than in mustafa.
We went on city tour, night safari, sentosa, jurong bird park. all of it's worth while. Orchard road is a worthwhile shopping area. it's just 2 MRT stations away from little india. (it's nice experience to travel by MRT. never miss it.). We had a taste of chinese food. (at balastier road). variety in food is less in little india. move to some other areas, taste their cuisines. Chinese food didnt taste too differeent or unpalatable. We were scared of the climate. we thougth it might be too hot. but it was not. it was quite bearable, comapred to indian weather.
