Singapore is a great place to visit, especially if you want to see a foreign country for the first time and a first world country at that. Tons of information on how, what and where is available on the official Singapore tourism website and all the other travel websites including our very own mouthshut.com

But here is what you really need - Expense details - Very useful information here guys, pearls.!

I visited Singapore in May 2009 along with 4 other family members so the prices I mention are the average rates per head, unless mentioned otherwise:

  1. Airfare - Tiger Airways - Chennai - Singapore Return fare - Rs.12, 400( You can get it for lesser if you are flexible about your flying date) - Check my review.

  2. Singapore Visa - Rs. 1420 - Albatross Travel Agency, Chennai( The only thing I used a Travel Agency for)

  3. All purpose Travel Insurance( which included health insurance) - Rs. 734( There were two senior citizens in our group whose premium was higher than the other three of us who are in the 20 - 30 age group. The 734 has been arrived at by dividing the total sum by 5. Therefore for a youngster it should be less than Rs. 734. I forgot how much the coverage was for but let me tell you it was more than adequate. New India Assurance company it was I think.

4. Accommodation - South East Asia Hotel - S$ 100 per day for a double room - You may check my review of it in the appropriate section. We took one Superior room( not really necessary) and one Standard Triple bed room.

  1. Food - Rs. 22, 500 for the 5 of us for the 6 day trip. And three of us were non vegetarians. This includes lunch, dinner and all the food and snacks we wolfed down whenever we felt the urge! Breakfast was complimentary in the hotel. Vegetarians may not be too happy but can manage.so try and stay close to Little India.

  2. Sightseeing( Includes conveyance - mostly the local train service - MRT) and shopping - Went to almost all the major tourist attractions and did a small amount of shopping. The money was spent on attractions and rides mostly - Rs. 75, 000( Includes buying a handycam worth Rs.20, 500 for a friend) for the 5 of us for the six day trip.

  3. Luggage upgrade to accommodate excess baggage on return trip through Tiger Airways - Rs. 2000.

Guys this is it. Use these figures as an accurate pointer to the possible expenditure.I am sure you can do it for much lesser as we made it a point to experience everything we saw and we went almost everywhere. But remember, once you get there, you don't feel like avoiding anything. So spend liberally on good experiences and save on accommodation and airfare.

These are the expense details of a family which did all it's booking online, chose to travel by the cheapest airline available, stay in a good budget hotel and splurged on sightseeing and all other attractions while being modest shoppers.

Enjoy!

Update: Use these sites to plan expenses accurately - Numbeo.com and priceoftravel.com

Try and stay for free using couch surfing sites or try airbnb before you try regular budget accomodation.

Spend wisely!
