Long haul flying is boring- there’s no other word for it. If you’re afraid of flying you should try going long haul because no-one can stay scared for 24 hours! Saying that, a good airline can help to relieve the tedium by the quality of its in-flight entertainment and meals. For these reasons I would heartily recommend Singapore Airlines...

I flew with Singapore Airlines a couple of months ago when I came to visit to good old friends in India...

From the beginning the crew were friendly, polite and helpful. Their uniforms were very colourful with the stewardesses dressed in brightly coloured sarongs. As they walked through the airport terminal together they looked liked a flock of tropical birds...

The seating area of the ‘plane was comparable to other airlines – meaning it’s ok for a couple of hours but pretty cramped when you’re travelling long distances. You could forget this, however, when you were plugged into the entertainment system. Each seat had it’s own small screen and remote control. You could choose from the latest films, top music charts, news or sports programmes. The handset also doubled as a telephone for those who wanted to ‘phone home and a video game playing handset. The instructions to all of this high-tech gadgetry were easy to follow...

Whilst airline food can, on the whole, be a bit hit and missy, I can honestly say that I did not have a bad meal. On the return journey the meal of my choice ran out and I couldn’t eat the alternative because of a nut allergy. This promptly led to several members of the crew disappearing into the bowels of the ship to locate some of the spare meals they keep for emergencies. Within ten minutes I was offered three alternatives. All drinks are free and ‘on tap’. At regular intervals hot towels (real terry ones not paper) were brought around and there were a whole range of toiletries on offer. The biggest problem for me was the tendency on long haul flights to give out packets of peanuts. As I’ve mentioned I have a nut allergy and even the smell of salted peanuts can make me physically ill. I had to hide in the loos until the sound of crunching died down...

All in all Singapore Airlines made a boring experience a little less tedious.

Seriously try out Singapore Airlines..Price too is unbeatable...
