Fly India Fly

Writing this review in this category as I believe that AIr Deccan has to be given credit for this change in India. - Low fair Airline.

This may look to be strange title but its real scenario in India now. So many new airlines have been added to traditional 3 (Indian Airlines, Jet Airways and Air Sahara) that all Indian are thinking abt flying now.

There are now other players also on board. How this has started. In 1990s many players had planned for new airline services. But most of them were rejected by Government. The main reason can be its high cost and lack of prospective buyer. But Low fair airline concept of west had been adopted by Air Deccan. They eyed all AC - II nd class and I st class passengers who spends almost same as Air fair. They came out with flying colors and got the number of customers they required. Major proportion of their customers was first time flyers - 25 % - 50 %. They were succeeded and rest is history.

Let’s check here new airline.

1. Air Deccan

The first Low fair Airline in India started its operation in August 2003. There was a good hype when the airline was launched. People were eager to see an Airline which offers fair of just Rs. 500. And infact It has survived all these. Its now going great. I know initially there were few problems relating to its services and etc. but now it has been settled.

It is having currently 20 planes and planning to add another 50+.

Its main advantage is a low fare. There is only economy class. It's base is in southern India so coverage is best over there. It is spreading it wings in other part of India also.

2. Spice Jet

It is among new age Airline in India with low fare. I haven't fly through this by I have heard that its services are better than other low cost airlines. It has started its operation just few months back in mid of 2005. It’s now going great. I know initially there were few problems relating to its services and etc. but now it has been settled. It is having currently less than 10 planes and will add few more in coming time.

Again the main advantage is a low fare. Its base is in Western India and covering few destinations like Mumbai, Delhi, Goa, Ahmedabad, Pune and Banglore now. It is spreading it wings in other cities also.

3. Kingfisher

Airline set by Beer King Vijay Mallya. It has also started its operations in mid 2005. Very clearly it can't be a low fare airline only as being associated with Vijay Mallya, but it offers variable fare. So it’s having its services for class and mass. It is having great in-flight services also for tycoon like its owner. Currently it’s having less than 10 planes but soon they will add more for this airline.

Currently it’s flying only in metro in few mini metro in India but soon it will spread to other cities also.

There are other airlines also ready to fly which may start in a year. They are Paramount, Indigo, Go Air, Magic Air. With this total airlines will be 10 in India.

Benefits of new airlines

  1. More Option to Consumer.

  2. People can afford flying.

  3. This has caused the existing airlines to cut their fair and introduce schemes (Apex Fare) for customers.

Challenges for new airlines.

  1. Lack of infrastructure in India

  2. High cost of fuel and insurance

  3. Lack of profitability in initial years

  4. Lack of traditional services (free meal, connecting flight facility)

  5. People's expectation for traditional services

Despite of all these challenges lets hope India Aviation industry grow and contribute to national growth.
