I booked a ticket for my mother in law on Air Deccan Flight DN-336 on 10th feb 2006 Jamnagar to Mumbai for travel on 22nd Feb 2006. On 20th Feb late evening I received an SMS that the flight had been cancelled due to technical reasons.
Flight DN-336 as per Air Deccan Website was to have started on 1st Feb 06 and bookings were open since maybe January 06.
A friend of collegue of mine had booked for the same flight on 20th Feb 06 on the same flight but it apparently on 18th Feb 06, he realised that it may not take off. He did not get any SMS message in advance. Since he was on a schedule he had to make alternate arrangements in the last minute.
I understand that flight DN-336 has not yet commenced operations. (today is 23/02/06). A little further investigation revealed that from 1st Feb 06 onwards till date, the flight DN-336 has been cancelled due to technical reasons. This is really a long time for technical reasons to get sorted out.
This is an excellent way for raising free money for running an airline without paying interest.
I was promised my money back within 24hours on 21st Feb 2006 via a telephone call from AIR DECCAN at about 1700hrs. Now it is over 36 hours and my money is not back.
Moral of the story:
If your schedule is flexible - i.e. it does not matter if you reach your destination tomorrow or day after instead of today - USE AIR DECCAN. It sure beats travelling by train any day
If you positively need to reach your destination on a given day - say for an interview, family function or a connecting flight - DO NOT USE AIR DECCAN
