Deccan Airways..!!!! The answer to common man's prayers. Yepp thats what I would call it.
Picture this:- Localtion - Kolkata, India
11:30 AM You get a call to be in chennai asap.
11:50 AM You have called up most travel agents and still no tickets.
12:00 PM You logon to internet and check on air deccan's site.
12:05 PM You make payment through credit card and take print out of ticket
cut to
3:30 PM (At airport) You show the 'printout' at the counter and check in baggage.
4:30 PM Board flight
5:30 PM Landed in Chennai.
All this at less than half the price offered by other airlines. What else can one ask for? Ok, They only have an economy class and its true that they dont serve you exotic food on board. But, Why would I want food for a one hour flight? One the day of flight, the ticket rates are less than half the price of others in the market. If you plan ahead, you can get it at as low as nearly 11% of other airline rates.
They serve you food onboard. But, you have to pay for it. That price is almost 200%+ of the market price. A Veg roll costs almost 50 bucks. A 500ml mineral water bottle costs 10 bucks. But, then these should worry only those who buy it. Its not imposed on you. You have the choice of not buying it!
Also, you can purchase some fancy stuff like teddy bears, wallets, comics, pen set etc. I would say that these items are only reasonably priced. Though some may find it a bit high.
They also have LCD screens showing you news/interviews/bollywood songs etc. I have not seen this facility even in Jet Airways/Indian Airlines on a 1 hr flight in economy class. To hear the music/sound of this visuals, you have <u>purchase</u> the headphones which is sold onboard for Rs. 30/- INR.
I think Air deccan is the best thing thats ever happened to the aviation industry. As they themselves claim - 'They dont compete with other airlines..... They compete with trains and buses.'
