The Silmarillion………

Ever wondered about the evolution of the world through music? Or rebellion of the people (Elves) against the gods? This is the beautiful story carved inside one man’s mind (the man I am talking of is the author, JRR Tolkien) where the real life tells of being born out of a single cellular protozoon!!!

The Silmarillion (also called as Quenta Silmarillion) was published posthumously in 1975 and was also edited by his son, Christopher Tolkien. It is actually the mythical precursor of Tolkien’s legendary epic “THE LORD OF THE RINGS”and the account of the heroic First Age of Middle earth. The whole book also contains some shorter compositions – Ainulindale and Valquenta (which tell about Eru and the Gods- known as Valar) and Akallabeth (the Downfall of Numenor).

The story is about the Silmarils created by a very skilled elf named Feanor, which contained the light of the holy trees of Valinor. But Morgoth, a former Vala who later becomes the first DARK LORD, seized them. Thus began the War against Morgoth, and they were aided by Men who were born later. Many of them were exiled by the Gods to Middle-earth.

Amongst the tales come the most notable ones of Arda(the world) – the love story of Beren and Luthien, Of Turin Turambar, of Gondolin etc.

The scope of the story is vast and concurs well with the emotions as well. Well there is a lot of violence in the book that is sure to break you down in the case if you are just so involved!

A must read for every Tolkien fan as well as for those interested in the fantasy genre. It's really good at filling those gaps that arise while reading the Lord Of the Rings.

PLEASE READ THE LORD OF THE RINGS FIRST AND THEN THIS BOOK!!!
