Films made on kashmir these days are mostlt related to the subject of terrorism, similarly this movie is all bout the same but in a different angle as the story revolves arond 2 teenagers sikandar and nasreen who are childhood friends cum classmates.
Sikandar, who wants to play state-level football, has a gang of boys bullying him. He dismisses advice of his friend nasreen on wat to deal with those bullys as an issue between men that she won’t understand. It is exactly this false belief that leads him to further trouble as he falls into the hands of kader a jihadi to prove himself macho and to deal with those boys, kader envelopes sikandar into his fold, and starts giving him lessons I weapon training, this gets more serious, as kader plans on using his skills for killing off an opponent, a reformed militant leader, who has joined hands with the Indian army, the story takes on several twists, throwing surprises every now and then.
It’s a world of deceit with characters showing sides one couldn’t imagine, with the definition of a victim and perpetrator blurring. The ending taking an over-dramatic turn is hard to digest, though, through its protagonists the film wants to speak on behalf of children. The ending dedicates the picture to the children of Kashmir, and you see how they are manipulated so easily by so many, these little people are lost in a battle between several forces.
the directors storytelling is adroit and explores various moods, cinematography brings alive Kashmir’s title of being heaven on earth, long-winding paths through forests where children walk to school, fog hanging mid-air, and old, white mountains, music, lyrics and sound are excellent, performances by the cast are superb.A movie one should really watch to be touched by the issues prevailing in kashmir and kids being used for the same.
