My sister had bought this front loading Siemens iq 100 machine in November, 2012 as a gift to our parents. It had then cost 25, 550/- INR.
It was bought over a more feature laden and cheaper price tag - 23k Whirlpool machine and a LG which had digital controls and more functions and was of the same price at 26k.
Looking at the other reviews I feel the shelf life of this particular model is 2 - 2.5 years. It starts malfunctioning once the warranty expires.
This particular model has basic knobs and simple buttons. No digital display. Very no nonsense look. Still appears new and pristine from outside that is.
Having so much trust in the'German engineering' I was highly astonished when repair cost were estimated at 9, 500/- INR. Visiting charges extra at 800/- INR per visit.
Apparently the internal circuit had burnt out. The machine just would not switch on. Obviously machines suffer wear and tear but I expect it to work for a few more years. Reasons that the technician gave for the same:- - Usual wear and tear
- Overloading or exceeding capacity I must hereby mention that the machine has 10 - 12 washing loads per week on an average. It is kept in the kitchen in a dry corner away from moisture laden areas such as bathrooms.
My older top loading machines from(Godrej 1998 - 2004) and(Samsung 2004 - 2012) worked well for at least 5 years before giving any problems. And even service costs were well within affordable and sane prices.
These machines suffered from rusting, where kept in humid bathroom conditions but never did they have any major mechanical issues. Or it would be related to spinning or water not draining. I was much more satisfied with it.
I was expecting the worse from Siemens reading the reviews here - but thankfully a technician came the same day as he was called to inspect the problem.
But there after we had to follow up numerous times for procuring the part. Overall wait for the part was close to 4 - 5 days. So had to wait for a whole week without washing the clothes. As I mentioned I never expected the machine to be repaired and was willing to write it off. So this was a saving grace that at least it was repaired.
Highly disappointed with the inflated service costs and mainly the product itself. I had no idea it would be so expensive once the warranty expires.
No I wouldn't recommend Siemens unless you are keen like we were a few years ago.
Prompt service - but highly inflated service cost.
