Hi,
I landed in this beautiful campus on August 15th 1992 to start my Engineering course. The college is located in the outskirts of Tumkur(70 kms from Blore). Although I am from South Karnataka, till the day I landed in this place, I did not even know where this place is. This college is located near NH4.(0.5 km from the highway). Coming from Bangalore you need to take a left turn to enter Tumkur and one more left turn to enter the campus.
This is the one of the biggest colleges in Karnataka. The entire campus is around 60 acres. Around 3000 students from all 4years study here. Its hostel accomodation is the 2nd to Surathkal' s KREC. Around 1500 students were housed in three blocks situated in the campus alone. It had three more blocks outside the campus , two for the freshers and one for girls. This was around 10 years back . Now both the students strength and the hostel accomodation must have been increased by another thousand students. The only disadvantage is the admin building is 300-400 metres from the main gate. As you walk through the SIT highway, left side you have a Shiva temple and the right side you have the Prinicipal's house. After this you will be welcomed by a beautiful fountain with the admin building in the background where the principal's office and the college office is located.
I stayed all 4years in the campus alone. So it was just 3minutes walk . Coming to the standard of education, since mine discipline was Mechanical , I can tell you more on this. Lecturers are good in the department. Not aware who is the HOD now. We guys used to attend all the classes especially design, drawing , Thermodynamics where more problems used to be there. Regarding theories , we used to attend only 75% of the classes. Other branches, like Electronics , Electrical and Civil they had very good lecturers. CompSc branch's lecturers were OK . (Now, it will be definitely good). The college has Chemical branch also which is quite isolated in the campus.Totally, it has all major branches Coming to the hostel life, we did have a minimum ragging in the first year. Since I stayed along with the seniors in my first year, I had to bear the ragging. But the ragging was cool (You can imagine). Since the college is located near NH4, we used to visit Dhabas very often. Not many restaurants nearby(;. The Woodland hotel in front of the college is OK. Apart from Education, since this college is located in Tumkur , which infact a very remote place, you can hanground only in MG Road where you can see some colourful girls. Most of them will be either from SIT or SSMC (Siddhartha Medical College). You have one Lakshmi theatre near the college where some ;) movies are played. If you want to watch some new releases you need to go to Maruthi theatre located in Mysore road.
Well, this is a picture of 1996. which I completed my Engineering. Unfortunately, I could visit only once after that. I am sure, the college looks more pretty now.
Last, but not the least, I definltely feel if this college was located in Bangalore city, then it would have been in par with the most prestigious colleges of Bangalore like BMS/ RVCE . That is one disadvantage of this college. Otherwise, you can really have a good 4yrs time in this college.
