Recently Indian Railways have become very innovative in reducing the traffic load on the busy trains. The advantage of this is that both during the peak season as well as the off peak season you have better connectivity & availability of reservation.
Shram Shakti is a very good example. What makes it unique and different from other trains is that probably this is the only ''OVERNIGHT NON-STOP'' train which covers less than 500 km on a otherwise very populated area. The train runs between Kanpur & New Delhi. Although Kanpur has at least 1 train to Delhi in every 1/2 hr but a dedicated train has been a demand for a long time. By introducing this train IR has killed 2 birds with a single stone. It has increased the quota of seats from Kanpur to Delhi but has reduced the number of seats available in Prayag Raj exp, thus increasing the availability of seats from Allahabad.
Now coming to train itself, its a very neat & clean train. I must say that NCR has done more than that can be expected out of them. At 23:00 when you reach Platform 1 of Kanpur station you will actually realize that this train glitters in the dim light of the station. The train is reasonability long with and has 16 coaches. The composition of the train is 1 AC First, 1 AC2T, 2 AC3T, 6-7 SL & 5 General coaches.
The Kanpur/ Delhi quota is following: -
AC First - 12
AC2T - 40
AC3T - 96
SL - almost 300
In addition there are good number of RAC seats also available.
Generally people finish their dinner, board the train & go to sleep. Since the train doesn't have any halt their sleep is also not disturbed. The train is also always in time. In fact when I have traveled the train has reached before time.
In short, it’s a very good option between Kanpur & Delhi and wish we have many more similar trains on different routes. Some of where I wish to have similar trains are: -
LKO - Delhi
Mumbai - Ahmedabad
Mumbai - Baroda
Bangalore - Chennai
