'They are professional cricketers playing for the love of the game so hence they have to play no matter whats the sun like outside' - Ravi Shastri(India v/s Pakistan, Kochi, 2005)

The above statement sounds apt but is unprofessional too, professionals are professionals becuase they get paid for it and they make a living out of it, So love for the game sounds dropping the overall statement, love for the game comes in street cricket, love for the game comes in monsoon football, it comes from contributing for a bat and ball and playing with friends, it comes from getting sad when a close mate doesn't comeout to play because his/her parents don't allow him to.

Well the point I am trying to make here is Cricket today is as proffessional as any other prevelant profession and business ofcourse, in true sense it ends up drawing huge sums of money for all involved.

The Case here gives us time to think on Saurav Ganguly, the best Indian Skipper or should I say Skipper of the best times or skipper bringing the best times or skipper who is a skipper in best times, its tilting a glass to find a minor breakage into it with an actual intent to not buy it.

Saurav has scored almost 10, 000 runs at an avg. of 41 in ODIs and around half of them in tests at an avg. of 40, well its great from any cricketing aspect to look at those stats, but no matter you are a CEO or a manager of a company, non performance is the major reasons to get chucked out, Don't straight relate it to the game of cricket, because after all its a game, but then again A game lauded by millions, a game that helps you make millions playing it on the field and endorsing through it off the field, Fact remains people like you because of not how you play but what you achieve end up playing for the side.

Let's end up one factor here that is Saurav Ganguly being a captain, a captain not only captains but has to play the game, well Saurav is in the side as a batting strength, thats why they call ours is a great batting line up, but like you say without performance its all hype and no substance, So the case of keeping him the side is all due to his performance as a player, so my opinion on him as a captain is that he's alright. Who takes over then? Dravid, let him do the job if at all you want to bring back Ganguly as a player. As a player, he can bat ofcourse, ball and field. So now let's analyse these aspects and it will be clear with this.

Batting: Test Avg. of a batsman of his class is on down side since 1998, it was 47 then and today it has comedown to 40, In last 60 ODIs to be precise his avg. is 27, last century was scored against Kenya in 2003 world cup, that makes it 2 years and 2 months without century. You know Past should be applauded and analyzed but there is no strict rule to actually to adhere to it, His past we have seen its good but his present(thats what we are here to discuss, right) is strictly below average.

Apart from all this he still finds problem with short balls, leg stump line.(You know in hay days mistakes go unnoticed but apart from that they actually bring about an end, when times are against you.)

He's not bowling since last 30 matches, As a fielder.he's not upto the mark ofcourse.

Steve Waugh is a great captain, a world cup winning captain, terrific allrounder he was, 10000+ in tests and what not, but non performance in One Dayers brought about his departure in One Dayers in 2002 but wait he still carried on in Tests because of some noticeable efforts in Ashes and Tests, Thats Professionalism!

I would have said the same about Sachin when he wasn't delivering, in a yr of his captaincy he scored around 700 runs at an avg. of around 34 in ODIs, (but MS wasn't around that time).

Saurav Ganguly should actually take it as a welcome break of 6 matches ban, and this should serve as an instinct to come back strong as a Batsman, as we all want him. He should play domestic cricket, you know the Class and Form are like 2 wings for a cricketer, The Class remains forever but the Form goes up and down, Right now its more down than ever, All he requires few runs to add to that class. Who would not love to see him come down the pitch and smash Kaneria out of the ground, I definitely will but not 6 off 2 balls and getting out but for 100+.

So spend some time, think and ofcourse comeback we are waiting.
