The 1 Rupee auctions are just a marketing gimmick and a complete waste of time. Here is how they work:
Suppose you make a 1 Rupee bid for a digital camera with MRP 25, 000 INR
Just a few hours before the auction ends, there will be no other bid, in most cases that is. Although, you might find one or two unsuspecting people bid in increments of 200.
Then suddenly, you see a bid for Rs 24, 000 for the same item
Clearly, your bid is gone and some super-intelligent bidder supposedly wins the camera.
System works perfectly every time. From Rupee 1, bids go straight to a few thousand, just before the end time.I hope the gentleman making such bids is not a member of our Planning Commission.
Point being, if this fraud has to be done in the background every time, why to have such a feature on the site, that too by a reputed brand like Times of India?
