Shimla, the Capital City, is now well maintained. I visited it in October 2000 and was surprised to find the cleanliness around. Whereas during my last visit there, it was a bit of untidy. This time, I noticed that it was fun being there. Perhaps all the cleanliness and proper working systems there made it look so beautiful.
The city has no particular place to visit. It is just like a small picnic here and there but with a good weather around. The Jakhu Temple is the best experience and getting there is much more interesting than the place itself. It is invaded by a number of monkeys and the greatest adventure was the fear of being attacked by one. Other place is the Mashobra Hill, popularly known as the Helipad which is around 15-20 kms away from Shimla. The Kufri is a must visit place during snowfall in winters.
The Mall - A nice market for window shopping and whiling away time watching crowd. The most time is spent here on this road. The Ridge is the topmost point of The Mall.
Regarding stay: The far you move from the Railway Station, Bus Stand and The Mall, the cheaper are the rates. I prefer staying a bit out of Shimla - At Khalini (5 kms from Shimla) there is a small resort - ''East Bourne Resort''. It is a cool and calm place away from hustle and bustle of the city. On the other hand, there is ''Asia - The Dawn'', which is on the main road, but out of city (4 kms). If you need one nearest to The Mall, Hotel ''Combermere'' is the best.
Since there are not much spots to be in, the visit should be as short as 2-3 days and the trip should be planned alongwith Manali or any other near spot.
A visit once is a must....
