The writers have done a splendid job of keeping the audience off-balance while weaving in elements of the Holmes mythology. The smart dialogue and warm performances - even Holmes has a discernible beating heart, or perhaps two - keep ice from forming on the production. modern-dress Conan Doyle that crackles with superb writing, brilliant performances and snappy direction, and does it all while somehow managing to be oddly faithful to the original source material. I thought that this series would not work, particularly after Robert Downey's interesting take on Conan Doyle's characterization.
I have been proved so wrong-it moved along at a good pace and held the attention brilliantly. Really interesting series.
