After hearing a lot about Shatranj in Bandra, my family and I decided to celebrate a night out at Shatranj in Andheri, 7 Bungalows. Which was once known as Signature, (that too was a horrible place according to me) Shatranj seems to know how to take a que from its predecessor! After 15 minutes of going through the menu, we all decided on what to call for and placed our order. After an agonizing 45 minute wait, my tummy was literally twisting itself from hunger.
To kill sometime we ordered for a bottle of white wine and were served so by the waiter. I quickly guzzled my glass down and was ready for another. During the course of my second glass, the waiter took my glass (they don't even serve you wine glasses here!!!) and poured water into my glass!! I couldn't believe what just happened. We didn't go hard of the guy because he probably wasn't even trained by his management to handle things like these so we calmly let it go. They happily replaced my glass with some wine from the bar.
What really ticked us off was the replacement was not the same wine but a more harsh wine with a strong yellow hue to it. At once I realized we were being scammed and then we made a noise! After 10 minutes of explaining to them that we did not like to be cheated they replaced my glass with the correct wine. Of course, by the time all this ended, our food was ready and we were to be served. We ordered for a mutton biryani but we were served chicken biryani.
After pointing this out to the waiter, they apologized to us with grins larger then Aerosmiths mouth!!! We really failed to see the humor in this situation!! We called the manager who apologized and said he would discount our bill. Yes, when the bill arrived, no discount was visible after which we had to beckon the the manager again and REMIND him.
We paid the bill to which they took another 15 minutes to get our change back. If this place plans to treat customers that way, my honest advice would be to shut down. It would be mere coincidence that it was just a 'bad day at work'.
