As my friend got married few months ago, he consulted me and so I helped him buy a good TV. Our search for a television brought us to a local dealer to hunt down the best bang for his bucks. LCDs being costly, my pal narrowed down to a CRT, but of a good and a reputed brand. When my friend asked my opinion for a good brand my recommendations were SONY and Panasonic. But SONY had stopped CRT production more than a year ago. We had to narrow down to SHARP and Panasonic omitting Sansui, Onida, Haier, LG and Samsung and Videocon.

Why we chose SHARP:

My friend seemed to be more inclined towards SHARP than Panasonic. When I asked why he said he already owned a SHARP TV under the name Optonica that lasted for 15 years without a single fault. Out of 4 models in the store, he finalized on the model# SHARP 21TK41 as it seemed to be a good deal for the dealer price of Rs. 7500. For details, visit the SHARP WEB Site: https://sharpindialimited.com/products/21TK41.php

SHARP - A Reliable Brand: If you ask me which is the best TV brand, my answer would be SHARP: though SONY's unbeatable, it's way too expensive! Sharp's been a reputed TV manufacturer. SHARP does not have the "BRAND NAME" in India as other TV's might have, but it's definitely a great brand abroad especially in the LCD market. If you are looking for a good CRT TV with best quality picture that lasts long then SHARP is the answer. But, if you need a still lesser priced TV go for LG / Samsung / Sansui/ Onida. All reviews of SHARP TVS on this site are positive. I remember watching "Tom and Jerry" video cassette on my neighbor's imported Sharp TV when I was a kid. It gave me the best impression about Japanese technology! And today, SHARP AQUOS is the most trusted LCD TV brand of Japanese people. SHARP currently ranks 3rd in the global LCD market sales.

Features, Accessories and Performance: Coming to this TV, the SHARP 21TK41 is a fairly simple, straightforward television with all the necessary and no fancy features . This model is a good buy for any type of person: it is a TV that is not too small and it is not too big. It is the perfect TV for an Indian living room. You can find it for around 7500-8000 rupees, which is quite a affordable.

On the front of the TV are the power button, channel & volume controls and AV-IN#1 jacks. On the back of the set are one coaxial cable connection for cable input, DVD Component Input, AV IN #2 and AV-Out. Which means you can connect a DTH, DVD Player and another input, say Walkman / iPod / FM Player to this baby - all at the same time! Now, that's connectivity! And you can switch between these sources by selecting the Inputs AV1, AV2 or DVD-Input. Though it lacks Video Noise Filter, it has a White level control.Along with the TV comes a very handy but basic remote control and a basic so-so manual. All in all, we're highly satisfied with Sharp’s picture quality hooked up to DTH .It’s very good and more than adequate. The color seems true, vibrant & clear with nice sharpness. It has LNA - Low noise antenna signal improver. We have no complaints about its sound quality either. I learnt that the SHARP is the only company to use imported picture tubes in their CRT TVs(unlike earlier, when Panasonic used imported Quintrix picture-tubes, now it uses the local Samtel tubes. So pic-quality is inferior to SHARP'). So, obviously, the contrast of the SHARP TV is healthy, giving dazzling colors and brilliant picture when connected to Airtel DTH. Having never used Cable TV and DVD Players, I don’t know anything about the quality it provides for these sources. I do recommend using the component Input for connecting DVD Players as it gives 33% better clarity than through AV ports.

Drawbacks:

Nothing is all perfect, you see.

1) CRT technology is perhaps the most robust for TVs. But., CRT TVs do not have the technology to show High Definition picture. So, Ifyou want a future-ready HD TV, then your choiceneeds to be an LCD TV. And that would cost you thousands more.

2) The looks of the TV is nothing great.looks normal compared to Sony or Panasonic. So is the small Remote Control with limited number of buttons giving accessibility to only the basic features.

3) The sound of the TV is nothing spectacular though the rating is 20W RMS. Action scenes and songs sound normal without that "bass effect".

Conclusion: SHARP . stands for'Sharp' Quality.
