There was a time when I used to love SRK. I liked Baazigar, Darr, Raju ban gaya gentleman, Badshah, Phir bhi Dil Hai Hindustani n of course block busters like DDLJ, KKHH. I admire his success and achievement. He is the most popular actor overseas. He is ONE OF THE MOST popular actors in India. But I don't like him anymore.
As an Actor
Shahrukh is a versatile actor, but he restricted himself in a loverboy image after reaching summit. Whenever, he tried to do something new like he did in Duplicate, Badshah, PBDHH, Paheli, Billoo; either he failed or achieved moderate access. I liked him a lot in Swadesh n Chak De India though. That's where Aamir, Ajay n Hrithik score.
As a Public Figure
Now, this is the main reason where he failed and really disappointed me.
Sachin never says that he is the best batsman in the world. Lata never says that she is the best singer we ever have. Amitabh never says that he is the star of the millenium. But Shahrukh has repeatedly told on the record that he is the king of the bollywood.
During the release of MNIK, he did publicity stunt at an airport in USA. I've seen many people grilled at airport during my travels. I've been grilled once at Hongkong airport for some time when I was on business visit. They're doing their duty and because of such policy no other 9/11 has happened in USA. Why to cry foul about it, have they arrested him?
I live in Mumbai and most of the Mumbaikar is very touchy about 26th November attack. After those attacks, BCCI(unofficially) instructed all the team owners to stay away from Pakistani Players. Shahrukh owns KKR and he also did the same. But after the bidding and few days laters, to gain sympathy of Pakistani population he said it was pretty sad that he was not able to have any pakistani player. What was stopping him at the time of bidding, he is the owner of a team for god's sake?
He did the same thing again after dropped Saurav Ganguly from KKR. To gain support of Bengali people, he said that he would like to have Saurav's service in any way. If he is so genuine, he would have not dropped Ganguly on the first place. But He has proved again and again that he is hypocrite and egoist.
Shahrukh has disappointed me big time as a public figure.
on Ra.One
Now, this is one hot issue. Shahrukh said he made this film for his children. I wonder what kind of father would fill non-veg comedy in the film meant for his children. I don't mind those vulger jokes, it's their creative liberty. But, then why to publish it as a film made for children.
Die-hard Shahrukh fans argue that Ra.one is a first indian film made for global audiance. I would say, Shahrukh has messed up the golden opportunity. Imagine, you're living in USA, UK or any other country. You've invited your american/british friend to watch Ra.one. Because of your high claims, that friend also has some expectations from the movie. Once he sees the movie, he would say, "mate, I've seen all these stuff in X-men, Ironman, Terminator 2 etc." You would say about the father-son relationship in the film. Your friend would say, "sorry buddy, nothing new about the story. This story is also a cocktail of Terminator 2+ Last Action Hero+ Bicentinial Man. India is such a rich country in culture, mythology, heritage. Why can't you make something original instead of making replica".
Final Words:
I agree he is a self-made man, he didn't have any god father etc. But, for the past few years, he has become a business man. I don't care if I would be distrusted by Shahrukh fans, get NUs or whatever. I wish Don2 becomes Super Hit but I've written what I feel about the self-claimed king.
