Sharukh............the HAM king!. Review on Shah Rukh Khan

I must begin this review..................by admitting that I too was a big fan of SHARUKH KHAN when FAUZI used to come on national television,and when DEEWANA,his debut film released I watched it numerous times,just because of him,i even use to have constant fights with my brother over him,coz he was a big time fan of AAMIR KHAN,still is................and I use to hate Aamir at that time,coz I could not accept the fact that he was a better actor than SHARUKH.But slowly as I started understanding acting and good cinema,i realised that SHARUKH was never a good actor,what made me like him was that he was a complete STAR..........and there is huge difference between being a great actor and being just a STAR.DDLJ.............was the film that made him a superstar and that was the film that ended my craze for him and since then I have never liked him.

SHARUKH KHAN doesn't defy my defination of an actor!He is successful,famous and loved by millions................but that doesn't make him a good actor.People love him for reasons best known to them..............i dislike him because I feel he repeats his acts in all his films,he is monotonous,he has the same expressions stuck on his face all the time,the same raised eyebrows,monkey jumping,stammerring(haaaanhoooon)and those love-sick expressions...............thats puts me off completely.Moreover I feel SHARUKH KHAN,the star dominates all the roles and characters that he plays in all his films................his antics are just too overpowering................THAT IS his BiGGEST UNDOING.When Sharukh played a negativ role in BAAZIGAR and DARR..................people and critics praised him to skies for his guts to play a negative character on screen.Even I was impressed by him at the time I saw those films..............but today I feel he did nothing special in those films that he got so much praise for.I think the only thing that worked for him was the fact that an actor played a villanous role for the first time on silver screen...............for example if you look at IRFAN khan's acting in HAASIL and SAIF ALI KHAN's acting in EK HASEENA THI..............just compare it with Sharukh's acting in DARR and BAZIGAR..............u'll know the difference...........and know how under-rated those to performance were,just because they were not done by SHARUKH THE SUPERSTAR KHAN..................

As an actor you have to keep re-inventing yourself,you have to experiment with your roles and that too with conviction..............over the years SHARUKH has earned the title of being over-rated because he isn't experimenting with his roles..............you cannot play RAJ and RAHUL all your life,and whats worse he is winning all the awards for it.People say SHARUKH sells.............agreed,but what is SHARUKH KHAN without the CHOPRAS,JOHARS,KAJOL.............the kind of films he works in and the kind of people he works with can make anybody a star even if you have little talent.................he works in what I call ESCAPIST CINEME,great locales,designer outfits,brilliant songs................lotsa romance and best and the most saleable co-stars with him,you are bound to be successful that way.Work with a new director and a unknown face..............and then give a hit,that will be to your credit.But how many hits has he given that way..............none.

I have seen a lot of films of SHARUKH,the only film I loved him in was KABHI HA KABHI NAA and more recently SWADESH.Apart from that I hated him in all the films.............and really if you want to know what over-acting is,watch RAM JAANE,HUM TUMHARE HAIN SANAM,DUPLICTE,DDLJ(esp the Senorita bit)...............you will be amazed at that mans brilliance in doing it.He was pathetic in KABHI KHUSHI KABHI GHAM,DIL TO PAGAL HAI,KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI..................and he got all the awards for these films,which just goes on to show that only name sells,nobody respects talent.

What amazes me most about this man..................is that he gets away with everything he does.He repeats his acts,he lobbys and buys all the awards,he is so self-obsessed,he just does not accept criticism and failure ,he sucks up to all the big names of the industry..............i have hardly seen him praising his collouges acting..............but the media and people love him so much that he gets away with everything,nobody says a word gainst him,just because he is RICH and FAMOUS.He did the LUX ad recently and I read his interview somewhere that he was quite proud of the fact that he did that ad................not apolligitic at all,which just goes on to show he just cannot take criticim..............for anything.

Now a days the word GOD is used in such a casual way..................SHARUKH is GOD OF ACTING,those who say this don't know how much effort,hard work,patience,perseverance have actors like DILIP KUMAR,AMITABH BACHCHAN,ASHOK KUMAR have put in to stay in this industry ,to reach where they have and to have been referred as gods of acting,an institutions in themselves..............and there you are calling SHARUKH,GOD...............what has he done to receive that approval from the media and oeople.He cannot even speak his dialouges properly................being in the industry for about 14 years.

I won't compare him with any actor and say he is better than him or he is worse than him..................coz comparison is wrong.Everyboy has their own style and methods of acting.............but I beleive if you have talent and you are genuinly good,you deserve all praise and success for it,but with SHARUKH I feel it is unjustified................there are so many brilliant and under-rated actors in BOLLYWOOD who do a much better job and work than him...............but SHARUKH and gang are liking ruling the industry...................and nobody can stand upto them,which is so sad.

On a positive side...................i feel SHARUKH IS VERY ARTICULATE and intelligent and it is good to listen to him or read his interviews.He is very shrewd too..............and knows the pulse of the audience,does know what sells and what does not,and that is good for him..................that is perhaps what has made him so successful.He also knows how to handle FAME,SUCCESS,MEDIA,his audience.............basically he knows all the tricks of the trade.

SHARUKH KHAN is a saleable star,he is KING KHAN,BADSHAH OF BOLLYWOOD,he sweeps away all the awards every year,which he is so undeserving of,he has taken his film PAHELI for oscars just because AAMIR KHAN's home production was also an official entry to the oscars and he has given the maximum number of hits..............which is a testimony to the fact that he is loved by the people................but all this put together does not ensure that he is GREAT ACTOR,success can never be considered a parameter for your talent...............and really the success of this man will always remain a mystery to me and also the fact that what does the general public sees in him that I could never see.For me he'll always remain the most over-rated actor of BOLLYWOOD.
