My apologies to SRK fans.This might hurt you very badly. Make you cry and strangle your dog in anger. If you don't like reading criticism of SRK stop reading RIGHT NOW! I'm not responsible for any physical, mental and psychological trauma my views may cause you. TRUTH has to be told, whether you like it or wasn't born a SRK-biter.
I am former fan, turned into one by SRKs repeated and repeatative non-performances. He was great in TV serials like'Fauji' and'Circus'. A whip of fresh breeze in movies like'Baazigar' and'Darr'. Stole hearts as a underdog romantic in'Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa'. Even'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge' was a novelty in the days Bollywood was dominated by Dharam-Paaji/Shatrughan Sinha action flicks.[ trend had begun with QSQT, but DDLJ was the culmination]. Therafter it has been a ride steep downhill, except an occassional flash-in-the-pans like'Hum Thumare Hain Sanam', 'Dil Se' and'Swades'.

Attempts to be different - always disastrous Character- Arrogant, tendency to get involved in unnecessary controversies, outwardly contemptuous of competition while internal suffering from insecurity/inferiority complex that motivates imitation of stalwarts like Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bacchan.Better MoviesBaazigar- Power-packed performance as an angry youngman( EARLY movie)Darr- Mentally deranged lover with pronounced scat, and a murderous streak(EARLY movie. Unfortunately he never got over scatting thereafter!)Dil Se- A controlled performance under legendary Mani Rathnam.
May not be one Mani Sirs best, but definitely SRKs better, watchable fare. Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa- SRKs best to date. He showed great potential for comedy here. It was filmed in his non-Star days.(EARLY movie)Hum Thumare Hain Sanam- Believable performance as an insecure husband. Fits him to a T(as an insecure person)Swades- For a change, after a looooong time, a down-to-earth performance as a expat NRI visting India and falling in love with a girl and India too; under the tutelage of Ashutosh "Lagaan" Gowrikar.
Unfortunately wasn't a great success commercially!Passable FareYes Boss, Duplicate, Don, Main Hoon Na, DDLJ(the concept has become trite by overuse), Devdas( pales in comparion with the original), JOSH, DTPHAnacin-SellersThere are people who love and swear by these. But I got terrible migraine after watching themKuch Kuch Hota Hain - SRK ignores tomboyish Kajol in full clothing. He falls for more'revealing' Rani. Rani writes a letter to her unborn child, in her death bed, to get SRK fall in love and marry Kajol! SRK softens on seeing Kajol in womanly dresses. Love(or is it lust?) beckons after a view of Kajols half-covered bosom after the wind lifts of her veil. In the meanwhile so many meteorites fall on Earth, whenever the lead characters are in a mood to make a wish, as to cause a scare of impending armageddon in NASA.
A real challenge to human intelligence!Chalte Chalte- Ham-ster SRK, Screamster Rani. Trite story. Out-of-control direction. An uncompromising torture for 3 long hours( which felt like an eternity)Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham- A total tear-jerker, every character cries at every possible occassion culminating in the viewer joining in for having wasted money for tickets to view such tosh. Wooden Hrithik and irritating Kareena complement SRKs incessant hamming.Mohabbatein- SRK paired with 3 wooden actors(and 3 non-actresses).
A hamfest. Kal.Kal Ho Na Ho- SRK arrives as the Savior to pair Saif and Preity while dying of some incurable disease(AIDS?). Standard staple of hamming combined with horrible theatrics.Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna- Joins the list for a'challenge to human intelligence' turning a delicate subject like adultery into a'Mills and Boon' starry-eyed romance.
I found SRK more bearable here than earlier KJo offerings(or have I started developing immunity to his hamming?)Disastrous - A movie even die hard SRK fanatics would like to forget Phir Bhi Dil Hain Hindustani - Self-produced Self-promotion with Zero-story Asoka- Ruthless spoof on a historical king and period. Unauthentic from the title itself! SRK in purple dhoti, Kareena with tattoos - need I say more!Koyla, Karan Arjun, Chaahat, Paheli, English Babu Desi Mem, Raam Jaane, Anjaam, King Uncle and of course Bad-sha Recommended only for the featherbrained. RESULTS The most overrated over hyped performer in history of Bollywood. He is a king no doubt - King of fluff.
