The film with its unconventional make and very different treatment has

already received a lot of flake and the public at large has seemingly

rejected it .True, the flaws are so many , that it almost becomes

pointless to write about them. But still there are certain things in this film

which must be taken positively. First and foremost is the fact that it has a

daringly different plot. For a change we have a film which is not based

on marriage, a rarety in the almost obsessed bollywood. There are no garish

wedding songs , no silly band of relatives, nothing ! The film strictly

revolves around the central charactars , again a welcome thing from

hindi film point of view. One more thing it tries to do but pulls back half

way, is to take the indian women from the pedestal of sanctity where she has

been hung stereotypically ,to the realm of humans, the director does the

brave task of showing the reality that the much deified indian women too is

fallible(she too is human) but withdraws, being unsure of peoples reaction. It

showed that the protagonist of the film is a vulnerable ,sensitive being, not

the all conquering 'mard ko dard nahi hota' package of machismo. The story

deals with fact and fiction, perhaps the first time in bollywood. So it was a

bold and refreshing effort. Unfortunately thats all the good one can say

about this film.

The story is basically of a writer Shaukat Vishist, played by sanjay

Dutt. who is shown to be a chimerical writer, who basks in past glory, who

hasn't written since years supposedly for want of inspiring character. He

thinks about writing about a women antara, and finds his imagination similar

to his wife antara. Then in order to take his story further , he encourages

his wife to do things fit to be in story.Which includes getting attracted to her

coworker. Then this story obsessed writer commits the mistake of mixing

imagination and reality. He starts believing that he is scripting

reality. He encouraged his wife to fall in love with her colleague but now he

thinks that he loves his wife too much, so he kills the character of her lover(in

the novel) and thinks that this will also happen in the real life. In the

end ,this reality imagination convolution is too much for him to

handle, he looses his mental faculties, some thing which happened in his novel

too!!

Performance wise, Sanjay Dutt disappoints. He fails to evoke the

sympathies of the viewers. Whenever he wails because of his inner turmoil, the

audience burst into laughter. Although its not his fault, when the script ,the

direction everything goes haywire. The film was too shady to be

understood, and appeared incoherent .Zayd Khan does okay in the two bit role of

his. But honestly he is not yet ready to do such sort of roles. The film has a

few very loud supporting actors too. They add little value and need not be

mentioned. But the only saving grace of the film is aishwaraya! The lady

looked beautiful as never before. She acted well as a reluctantly

interested lover, as a wife trying to deal with a difficult husband. But her

efforts were ridiculously little to salvage the film.

In all, its not worth a look, let it be the last choice.
