Blood, frantic faces, mutilated bodies, Squatting……………unrefined atmosphere this is not what Shakti –the film only portrays ……it also highlights the rural environment that still exists in our society.

Shakti-the film: Plot

Shakti is a film of a girl Nandini (Karisma Kapoor), who lives happily with her two loving uncles (Jaspal Bhatti & Tiku Talsania) at Canada. She is married to Shekhar (Sanjay Kapoor) and has a son Raja .

Here’s a smooth running of a film but a sudden jerk came both in lives of viewers and Nandini when they landed in India. Shekhar has not told Nandini about his roots in all these years of marriage. Shekhar himself has come to Canada to escape from the dismal noises at his homeland and the kind of life he hated most- the incessant cutthroat battle going between his Father and Step-uncle.

When they landed in India, frenzied mobsters attacked Shekhar stopping the bus. After miraculous escape from their attackers, Nandini scared already with her warm reception at Shekher’s homeland, received parched welcome from her father-in-law Narsimha (Nana-Patekar), lord of 40 villages and Deepti Naval has played the character of her mother-in-law.

The story moves with this rhythm but Nandini’s whole world changed with a ghastly murder of her husband, which Shekhar step-uncle has conspires against Narsimha but Shekhar instead of Narsimha went to meet a person to solve the problems of his village.

Now, after Shekhar’s death Nandini and her son is at mercy of that person (Narsimha) whom she has hated most. Now a Shakti-ful (powerful) battle has started as a spirited mother is ready to fight and go against all odds to get back her son from the den of Narsimha. Raja, his grandson being the last straw of hope for Narsimha after his only son’s death to honoured the living tradition of continuing family-feud.

She manage to escape safely from Narsimha clutches and in between her tough journey she met a village hooligan Shahrukh khan, who dreams about Ashwariya Rai (song Isqk kamina picturised on duo) and dreams to get to Dubai for making fast bucks. SRK is presented in a very dynamic role. His entry could be said to give respite to audience who otherwise has no option to laugh.

Cast and Crew:

Performance of Karisma Kapoor is excellent and in few of her past films like-Fiza, Raja Hindustani she has shown her acting mettle.

Performance of Sanjay Kapoor is also good and mature especially after the flop films Koi mere dil se puche and Soch.

Performance of Nana Patekar is brilliant and he has done justice to his role. He has created hysteria in viewers with his style. He is a veteran actor known for his past hits like-Agnishakshi and Parinda.Deepti Naval has excelled in her small yet impressive role.

Shahrukh Khan was presented in a dynamic role (read in casting) but in few scenes he was too hyper. I personally felt that his entry has acted as an ice-breaker to skip the monotony of the film . His comic language of dialogue-delivery is endearing.

Director, Krishna Vamsi debut Hindi film Shakti film is based on his successful Telugu film Anthapuram. He also does screenplay for the film.

Mehboob is the lyricist and Music is by Ismail Darbar and I personally like songsHum Tum Mile and Dhol Baje Re (Prabu Deva dance sequence).

Though a song Ishq Kamina is very popular among audiences is well choreographed and Music is scored by Anu-Malik.

Dialouges are written keeping in mind with the tempo of the film. As provocative comments are imbued with the rural mentality.

Cinematography (S. Sriram) is awesome. The dusty landscape and the sand dunes have been beautifully captured.

Conclusion:

I recommend Shakti-the film for that section of movie-enthusiasts who really wish to see the ongoing conditions and traditions of Thakur-Culture of rural atmosphere.

This is a media through which a society is displayed in mirror!!

Power within…..this byline is suffice to describe the essence of the film.
