I became a member of seventymm one month back.I am not a movie freak, but wanted to utilize by newly bought home theatre and watch some best movies of the world. The movies are available for purchase, but they cost nearly 500 bucks each. So I thought to join some movie rental services with good collection. I believe seventymm & bigflix are the only options available with good collections. I have no good experience with Reliance group and some of my favourite movies were not available in Bigflix. Also seventymm is available only in very few locations, so I thought the titles will be available more easily than bigflix. So decided with seventymm. If you decided to join, don't register directly through their website. Call their customer care and you will get some good promotional offers (baits!!??). The good thing is that it is available almost around the year. The bad thing is they will change daily and depends upon the person who attends your call (and may be upon their mood). You may hit a good deal or not, it is your luck. When I called them, they said some promotional offers are going on (some 200 bucks off), but I didn't hurry. I called them again the next day, now I got completely different set of offers. One of them was good (One Movie a day for 6 months + 6 months free - 50% off!!!), so I joined the elite group of 70mm customers.
It was Monday, so I wanted to order a movie and they said that they don't deliver on Mondays. They didn't tell that before. Anyway I have no option as I paid, so patiently waited for the next day. In the meantime added my favourite movies to the wishlist.
I got an email on that night that there three more movies are sent as gift. Hurray!!! Two of them are in my wishlist and I was happy about the surprise gift. And it is really a surprise gift as nobody knows when they will be delivered. I called them and they said it has been delivered already. I yet to get them. When you call them they won't give you any complaint number. So I raised this issue on their website to have a record of the issue. And believe me, they are contacting their operations department for the past one month.
Anyway now I have a list of favourites, so decided to order one by one. Then only I realized that many of them are VCDs even though I added the DVD in my wishlist. I am not sure whether the DVD version is also available, but I never seen them for most of the movies. Also I wonder why VCD is listed when I added DVD in the wishlist (Now I am very much tempted and bought a few original DVDs that are available in 70mm only in VCDs). Also you will come to know that some titles are not available or yet to be added - only after you added them in the wishlist ot while requesting them
Now I realized the issues with poorly designed website. The wishlist can show only 20 movies and you need to scroll page by page every time (you cannot jump). If you remove any item from the wishlist, you will moved to first page and you have to start scrolling pages again. You cannot search the wishlist. I think these are some basic features of a user friendly website. I suggested them these points, but seems they are not bothered about improving themselves or providing better solution to the customers.
Their policy on broken disks is a mess. They will knowingly send you broken CDs and it is you who need to be very careful. But they are honest about that and the CD can still play, you take the risk.
Another issue is they don't maintain proper timing to deliver the CDs. One day they will come 07.30 pm and another day at 03.00 pm. You should be available when they come and they won't bother if you are not there, you lose a day. But the delivery boys good, they will call you on your number. Once I am away from the home and they extended the validity as they couldn't deliver the CD.
They don't mention the region of the disk. Even though I received only one movie of a different region it would be good if they mention that before we order, so that we can save the player. otherwise you can use DVD passkey software to unlock it without affecting your DVD player (in computers/laptops only)
I read many other reviews and should say that the service is not so poor as many others mentioned. I always plan my favourite movies well and don't make a big fuzz when something is not available. The SMS alert facility is excellent and I get an alert when a movie is available. I will be online most of the time, so I immediately book it.
I heard that the region issue is quiet common with Bigflix, but 70mm handles that well. So far I had only one such issue.Another point I liked is that they send you the complete kit, so you will get a chance to view the deleted scenes, trailers, director/artist comments etc of your favourite movie that often comes in a separate disk. There is no need for them to send the second disk, but they do very often, if available.
Now I watched nearly 20 of my favourite and few of the world's best movies (https://imdb.com/chart/top) at around 100 Rs per CD so far (I paid 2K for 1 year). I feel its good a deal as the cost will be much less as I rent more movies. If you are interested, I would suggest to go for a short term subscription and renew that if you are happy.
