Director Martin McDonagh does not, sadly, make very many movies. He should. Because, as I've mentioned in my title, nobody makes movies that are edgier, quirkier and more fraught with surprises than this gentleman - who incidentally has also written the screenplay.
This is one of those movies where you don't have to wait too long for things to get started. The first psychopath strikes when you are barely five minutes into the movie. Having told you that, let me assure you that there aren't any plot spoilers in my review - I wouldn't dream of spoiling such a mind-blowing movie for you.
For those movie buffs who need more than just a good plot as a reason for watching, there's a lot more. a whole lot more in the form of some simply amazing, dazzling, awe-inspiring performances by Christopher Walken, Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell and the truly inimitable Woody Harrelson. There's also an amazing blink-and-you-will-miss-it cameo by Tom Waits. in a psychotically delightful role.
Like the Get Set-Go-BANG! start-of-film I told you about, the pace never slackens - which can be uncomfortable at times because one doesn't really want to pause for a loo-break, the suspense is so overpowering.
'Nuff said! Now there remains one more thing to be done - go watch it!
