If media played a part for a movie to become a big success...than this film is a good example for it...the film was a unknown low budget commodity...hero who was very little know...heroine....never seen b4....an actress who has acted in adult mallu movies.... a new cameraman...if anyone whom we know worked in the film, then that was the musical genius illayaraja......
For the first one week ...no one ever cared about the movie......but it was after one week the movie got noticed....thanks to media.....hindu said it was an excellent movie.....sun tv said it was the movie of the decade.....anantha vikadan gave 50 marks for that movie...i hav never seen great movies cross 45 in their reviews.... so it made people curious ......and make them go to the theatre and watch it.......
Story starts of with sethu (vikram) nicknamed ''chiyaan'' standing for election...he wins it..then a song... then a fight with opp. party...all usual stuff... but then the director brings in humour with his characters...not a slap stick one...but some dialogues make u smile even in tragic situations.... the fun luving, jolly, entertaining first half...holds the viewer to watch the sad, slow, tragic second half.
Sivakumar comes as magistrate and brother of vikram....gives in a neat performance......his wife character is also well potrayed a caring women shows motherly attitude towards the arrogant vikram..
Vikram as chiyaan has done marvellously well...in the first half as an angry young ...aggressive rouge like college guy....then scenes where he falls in luv...how he expresses it to the female...is all well done...then in the second half his appearence make u feel pity for him his acting is so very gud u might even cry seeing him as a mentaly affected in the asylum.....his acting was so brilliant....no wonder he got awards in all film awards shows.....
The heroine abitha..has done her role aptly..nothin more or less....a very neat potreyal of her role by the director...she comes in as a very innocent brahmin gal....
Sriman a s freind of vikram has actually stolen the show with his ''nakkal ''(sense of humor'')has created many a smile for the viewers....no wonder his career has bloomed after it.......
Cinematography...by rathnavelu.... another debutant...is excellent....esp the mental asylum scenes are so very naturely taken....the green tint has worked out well to very great extent.... all credits should go to the director...
Bala for providing such a gud film with a great climax....it had really made all hearts sink with sorrow.....beautiful screen play....keeping the viewers always under his control.....the dialogues r very catchy...u'll luv the dialogues in the first half....
And if there is anyone who's work standout greater than that of vikram and bala then it was illayaraja....the background score is excellent....the songs are gud...esp..the sad song''enge sellum intha pathai''...became so famous ..this song was played in many movies to indicate insane ppl(the song comes as bckground when vikram bcomes insane and is in mental asylum)......and the climax song ''vakku thavarivital''...is a gem it will surely make any one cry.....the main reason for the films sucess is the last song which goes so very perfectly to the tragic scene...make u cry...
Your heart will sink with sorrow when u see the climax...thats the success of the actor, director, music director.
