Nowadays, Some TV Serials are absolutely inane

The popular entertainment serials are all exaggerated, mind boggling and dramatic. The woman war gorgeous clothes, are dressed up to their teeth in rich dresses or sarees, wear jewellary as if they are Christmas trees laden with baubles, and the situations they find in are out of the ordinary. A simple ?Kasam? given by one person to another creates so much havoc and so many problems that one just cannot imagine. Kumkum having promised the motherless boy?s father (her own brother in law) to keep her mouth shut regarding Keertan?s paternity, that she lands herself in the soup. Bhabhi having promised so many things to so many people makes the serial go on and on.

It is the same with the other serials. A promise made, a secret kept, a lie told, all go a long way into making the serials everlasting. That is why they are unending. The title song, the pasteurization of the name of the serial keep changing, the stress on Kumkum having become a widow of Jatin and having married Sumeet in strange circumstances is now overlooked. Daksha of ?Kyonki Saas bhi kabhi bahu thi? is now a forgotten entity.

Also pregnancies in and out of wedlock are becoming very common. It is another story that the pregnant woman doesn?t show at all except during the last couple of scenes when she is shown screaming or in great pain and faints after delivery. Watch Prerna (Kasauti Zindagi Ki) or Kkusum (Kkusum) for example to understand what I mean. For the serial makers it is as if marriage is a joke. People marry for revenge or for hurting or for money. In ?kyonki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi?, Gautam marries Damini because in the accident in which Karan was involved killed his beloved wife Teesha. So to hurt Karan he marries Damini with whom Karan is in love. What a reason.

It is now a time for rebirth and the like. Aruna Irani?s ?emotional? story revolves around the death of a young girl, who comes to her boyfriend Aryan and tells him that she would be born at a specific place at a specific time. She does take birth but he doesn?t recognize her. Meanwhile his marriage is fixed with another girl whose horoscope matches 36/36. The story, ?Tum bin jaaoon kahan? is a story of rebirth in an era when we are surging ahead in scientific knowledge and computers and the like.

With a background of all this, it is really very satisfying and soul stirring to watch marathi serials. On of them ?Shriyut Gangadhar Tipre? is down to earth and excellent. Recently the theme was the most relevant and the most tension filled one of our times when the man takes VRS (voluntary Retirement Scheme). He gets a lump sum of money when the organization offers it, but what does he do with his life? The wife Shyamal is most practical, the backbone and support for her husband.

Jassi is none other than Mona Singh, a popular beautiful model, if some reports are to be believed. Since the model looks beautiful and smart and very different from the old fashioned, bespectacled and braces wearing bumbling Jassi of the Serial ?Jassi jaisi kohi nahin?.
