Its been not even a week since I have been to sentosa and I still cant take it off my mind. Such a small island and so many things to do.
Sentosa is the island resort of Singapore. Its a small island that is connected to the main city via a bus service that goes by a small bridge. Its called the ''Magical Island of Sentosa' ! very true..
Sentosa is a wonderful place. In fact there is so much to do in sentosa even if it is a very small island - you would need an entire day in sentosa to appreciate it. going to sentosa in a hurry would be sheer foolishness. so spare a day and take the sights and savour the 'magical' island of sentosa. it is in no way less than magical.
Places to see/things to do :
Take the free bus to sentosa. Its free and the moment you set foot in sentosa, buy a small ticket which entitles you to roam around in sentosa at your free will, and ride the free yellow buses to take you from one place to another.
First visit the Merlion, as no visit to singapore or sentosa is incomplete if you havent seen the merlion, which is the symbol of singapore. it lookes wonderful surrounded by lush green trees and overlooking the singapore harbour.
Next stop at the Carlsberg Sky Tower, which is a revolving tower that takes you a great height, from which you can see singapore through its glass windows. The view is excellent and the Sky Tower makes you realize what a grand city you are in. The windows are made of glass and the view is simply panoramic!
You can then stop at the Underwater world, which is probably the best aquarium in the world, where you can see all sorts of underwater life, uncluding a small tunnel where you can see sharks and octopuses and star fish in the water covered by a glass. If you have kids with you, dont miss this place for anything. There is also a toughing pool where you can touch the fish and take photos with them.
After all the sightseeing, you can stop at a beachside cafe and drink some beer or simply sit and watch the ships reach the harbour one by one, and play some beach vollyball or simply laze around on the beach.
For adventure lovers, you can rent a bicycle at $5 an hour, and you'll have a geared bike by which you can cycle around sentosa. there is even a tropical bike train where you can bike around a small jungle as well as on the beaches and enjoy the great view and good food.
After all of this is over, you can take a walk at the singapore botanical gardens, which have some of the most rare species of plants and other oriental fauna.
also worth visting is the jurong bird park, and insect park and nature trail.
THE STAR ATTRACTION IS THE SOUND AND LIGHT SHOW, BY THE MUSICAL FOUNTAIN, which is a show complete with lasers that is a visual delight. it starts at around 7.40pm and is always packed with visitors from all over the world. dont miss this one for anything. it should be viewed at the end of the day, when you have seen all of sentosa. it is a 4 million dollar event and is one of its kind in the world.
i know I sound like a brand ambassador for singapore, but once you've been there I am sure you will do the same! sentosa is one superb place - but dont go in a hurry and take a lot of money along, atleast $200 as it is expensive and food at sentosa is also very costly since it is a tourist destination.
If you want to eat budget chinese food, it is available at the food court from where the bus service to sentosa starts. there you can get a decent meal for two at just $5.
To put it short, if you want to see magic, then see sentosa and dont miss the sound and light show. your senses will thank you later after you get back from sentosa.
