Now a days, many smartphone manufacturers do not provide earphones with handsets. This is due to cost cutting. Now in that situation, you are forced to buy your own earphones or headphones.
Let me clarify few things first. This is my personal opinion and it might help you guys as well, Earphones usually one can use while traveling to office or college, but if you want to have nice sound out put with best in class noise cancellation for watching movies or videos at home, I would recommend you to go with headphones. Last thing to clarify, one should never compare the performance of Earphones with that of Headphones. Bass effect you get on earphone is completely different than on the headphones.
This was a choice for me to make between Earphones and headphones.

This is wired headphones, the length of the wire is too big for a normal user.

Sound out put is just best in class. Even high and lows one can hear nicely. Bass effect is good. Gets better with the use.
Adjustable for all head sizes.
Noise cancellation is superb. You won't hear outside noise as it covers your head completely.
Even a person seating next to you won't come to known what you are listening.

This headphone covers your ears completely so after a long use in humid condition one might feel sweaty on ears. This happens particularly on long usage and more frequently to people living in cities like Mumbai and Chennai. This particular con is common with all headphones. So, if you think you sweat a lot and sweating is harmful for you than you might not want to go for headphones. You can go for a decent earphones with good bass effect. Think of JBL T150A. This earphone is very nice and quality is also good. This is only for those who does not want to buy Headphones. If your budget is of 2k-2.5K, go with this headphone. Trust me you will enjoy the experience on this for a long time. It’s worth buying.
