Semmozhi Poonga( Classical Language Park) , is a botanical garden in Chennai set up jointly by the Horticulture and Agricultural Engineering department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.The first time I visited was just after covid and my kids loved the place. There were ducks, swans, fish, lovely garden neatly pruned and average maintained.Lots of kids and parents and grand parents visits that park.I was disappointed to see couples who were indecent. None of the workers or supervisors cared to restrict them from bad public displays despite so many kids playing around.This park is situated in the heart of the city and is still not explored by people. I noticed many people who are regular walkers who are living close by.A very beautiful place and it should be a tourist spot too but not well discovered or any proper propaganda given. Must visit place. A pride to Chennai and can be utilized well by better maintainence and some strict protocols can be followed as old and young are the most frequent visiters.Have very good hotels close by. Also Marina beach is close by.
Second update: I went to the poonga in April beginning of the week. There were many saplings ready to plant and new huge designs like elephants, horse, peacock women shapes were seen built recently which looks like will be eventually planted. As we moved deep down found couples sitting indecently like before and no one to restrict their indecency despite children and family around. Quite embarrassing situation. The place is not maintained well as we go deep. This place could have been looked seriously and maintained well which can be a best tourist place by increasing the price too. So I give 3 star.
