After a long time,Satta is a movie of substance. But one word of caution to the would-be viwers:You won't like the movie if you are a typical male.

Raveena Tandon, a thoroughly apolitical career-woman,meets Vivek Chauhan, the son of an eminent politician,in a pub one night. The guy sees her, likes her and pursues her relentlessly till he wins her over and they eventually get married. Now this Vivek Cahuhan is a thoroughly spoilt kid and his true colors come out shortly after marriage.Raveena (Anuradha) is not allowed to participate in any of the family's business discussions.(She is snubbed rather curtly when she attempts to help her father-in-law about a failing hotel business once at the dinner table).Even when she appraches the domestic help with cooking, her mother-in-law tells her that cooking food is not something a ''Chauhan Bahu'' was expected and supposed to do.These things and many others(like constant and blatant infidelity on her huband's part) gradually drive Anuradha to fristration and subsequently, to rebellion.

In the meantime,Vivek gets arrested for a murder and repeated cancellations of his pleas for a bail make sure that he is unable to compete in the forthcoming elections. The party decides that they will make Anuradha fight on his behalf.

Then we have Anuradha's in-laws going to her and shamelessly asking her to save the ''khaandaan ki izzat''.This is the beginning of Anuradha's entry into the world of politics. She learns the rules of the dirty game fast and soon becomes very popular. She even wins the election. However, her in-laws and her husband are not willing to give her any credit for the sucess.According to them, wothout their name tag attached to her, she couldn't have done a thing.Anuradha gradually moves farther and farther away from her family. She falls in love with Yashwant, the guy whom her father-in-law appointed as her guide and mentor in her political foray. She becomes more and more dependent on him.But later on, when her party decides on forming a coalition government, she realizes what a fraud this man Yashwant was. From then on, she moves on, playing one political titan against the other, eliminating all of them from her way and announces that the post of the CM of the new ruling party would be taken by a veteran, uncorrupted party member, Anna Sahab.

At the end of the movie, when a journalist asks her to whom she attributes her profound sucess in so short a time span, she says,''Nobody.I have walked these paths alone and will continue to do so in the future''.

Raveena's performance is spell-binding,though at some places one cannot help but notice a bit of over-acting.All the other characters have played their part well, including the guy who played Vivek Chauhan. The shameless male chauvinism displayed by his character gets to one's nerves.

Altogether, this is a pretty watchable film. The music is Ok,nothing great.
