Sathyam Theater,a place to visit if you are coming to Chennai for the 1st time and if you are localite, its almost like a shrine for Movies.. Its situated in Mount Road, can be accesed either through Gopalapuram, or through Mount road or from Royapettah
If you are one of those avid movie buffs, who enjoy a movie with a tub of popcorn and a coke/7up in your hand,seated in a comfy chair or sofa, then you are in the right place.. Sathyam Cinemas has 5 multiplex screens - Sathyam, Santham, Subham, Sree and Studio-5 ... dont think there are any that have come up in the past couple of months... :)
Facility:
This is one theater I have come across in Chennai that is well organised and NEAT and has very hygeinic rest rooms.. Oh,yes,they do... plus it has ample car/2wheeler parking space as well,although at times it becomes a hassle getting your vehicle out because of the crowd.
Each theater has its own cafeteria that serves everything from Popcorn-plain and butter,Puffs, pasteries,Doughnuts,Soft drinks,Tea,coffee to Lays and chocolates. So if you are going along with your family, each one can have a pick.. Just make sure, once the interval begins to rush to the counter or else you will be left standing at the counter with your tokens lost in the crowd... :)
Movies:
Tamil,English,Hindi and occasionally other South Indian and sometimes even Foreign language movies are screened here...The minute a movie is released, you can bet it will be shown in one of the theaters here.. They also show quite a number of Animated movies as well,... and since they have Real Digital Experience (RDX) , surround sound system , watching a movie has never been so exciting and so much fun.. Esp movies like Jurassic Park,Star wars, Anniyan,Swades where audio makes a world of difference
What else:
Oh,and the quintessential question regarding the tickets.. If you have decided on the movie,or in case you have no clues , all you need to do, is call their number 044 4224 4224 and speak to the customer care exectuive, ask for the movie of your choice and book the tickets in advance or you can just get the info and walk into one of their ticket booking booths (at the theater) and purchase your ticket across the counter.. They have multiple counters and you can pick up tickets from any of them...
There is even a corn stall right at the entrance along with a mini cafe that sells most of the eats,plus water incase you want a quick bite before heading into the theater...
Another attraction at Sathyam is their Magic Hat, which is a supervised play area for children whose parentsare away at the movies,its the first-of-its-kind in India. and they also have a Blind Date concept whereby you can just let them know and they will choose the movie and you get to go for it.. This I think happens on Thursdays...
