After his path breaking Chennai28, Venkat prabhu is back with a thriller-Saroja.Does it live upto its expectations? The answer for me is NO.The movie mixes seriousness and fun and the cocktail is undigestable. There are several unnecessary scenes in the movie, like the one in which director himself shows up as a supposedly crazy person/drunkard.Why the hell did he have to show his stupid face?(Another one is the whole sequence of the 4 guys and their confrontations with Brahmanandam.
Honestly speaking, he is a low level comedian who is really over-hyped.But here he is really wasted.) The main theme of director seems to be this-Building up to what seems to be a great scene and then throwing it away with a stupid comedy.Well, Mr.Prabhu, chennai 28 being a light hearted movie that technique worked, but here it is a supposedly serious movie. All the time the life of the protagonists hangs in balance and they still find time to produce witty and sometimes irritating one-liners.
It kind of spoils the whole mood of the movie. And on the acting side, the 4 heroes are good, sampath as villan is under-utilised, Jayaram and PrakashRaj are just about passable.Vega as Saroja fits the bill. And finally Nikita steals the show with one song. She is a real pataka! To sum it up the movie goes like this-"Someone is about to kill a guy with a knife and the guy says the knife is blunt"
