There is a very thin line to be changed and the story is changed. Here almost every life has otherwise same story. What Ram Gopal Verma has done...He writes before the movie casting here that '' This movie is influenced by and a tribute to ''The Godfather''.'' But this is the crooked part what RGV has played successfully. Now listen why and how!


I would call it sheer foolishness in comparing this movie with The Godfather. It has been copied many times manywheres without openly mentioning the movie becuase the intention was to copy the movie. Here the intention was not to copy but to show a parallel between the movie and a real life. Life of Bal Thackeray.


RGV has just used the shoulder named Godfather to shoot his gun of loyality and praise of a style, a thought, called Balasaheb Thackery. No left no right, and without any other scope to confusion, this man has made this movie over Thackeray's working. There is nothing to talk about the story.


Final and crisp, Sarkar, is not Godfather, but Sarkar is absolutely style of working and story of Balasaheb Thackeray. And for story either watch the movie or read about him, no need to read The Godfather. you will find nothing!


RGV is a director whom I have observed as the person who specialises in the person's working style and functioning. He observes very minutely and makes a movie. Thats why he made Kaun, Road, Daus, Jungle, and so many mafia movies. He excels in understanding of a working system. His definitions are clear.


If you are going to watch Amitabh or Abhishek, don't go. They are not there. Amitabh and Abhishek are not there very much and you may end up resenting why so less of Amitabh as Sarkar, and less of Abhishek as Shankar? Because Sarkar is the movie of only 2 hours exactly. All story told their. RGV had no intentin to show Amitabh or Abishek. In overall you see a functioning, a phylosophy over the power game, where there is no hero. All are simple. It looks like a movie taken by some hidden camera, a very very true story instead of a movie!


1) One son of Balasaheb died. It's suspense. Death of Sony in Godfather was not like that and he was not anti godfather.


2) Just like Subhash nagre, Bal Thackeray was jailed. Don was never though he was challeneged.


3) He really does social service what Subhash Nagre was shown, and I have come to know one of that from very close. Don never did social service neither he had any ethical or moral background, except few.


4) The family feud of Thackeray's is well known, and how he controls the power game from bacdrop, it's well known. So happenes with Subhash Nagre, but not godfather.


5) Absolutely the outfit is of clean Balthakeray, and Amitabh performance totally does justice to Thackeray. Nowhere you see the don again.


So where is The Godfather? you just heard and started believeing and come on you started comparing even, while Ramu ably misguided you, and did what he wanted!


Performances. All were real performers becuase it was a real story


One thisng is special and remarkable with Sarkar is the movie has redefined again the art of expression facial expression and acting by eyes.


As I told you RGV specialises in detailing of functioning so he was even able to make dumb like Chakroverty act. But here without any drop of ambiguity, Amitabh Bachchan comes out of director hands and gives soul to the character of Balsaheb Thackrey. I don't feel that any other person here would have lent that much gravity to that character, and without doubt Amitabh has done more than what other did. Though not much was given to the perofrmers to perform. It's a 2 hour movie and multi characters.


The real hero is the functioning style of the Thackrey's family.


Abhishek: I would not have used this section for him and would ahve taken performance of all artists collectively. But just due to your curiosity. Abhishek is nothing special and has worked exactly what the director demanded. He too has not much role. reason you know.


KK Menon has overacted. Supriya pathak was ok. The south indian villian was good. But the villian part had no punch. Peoples here are praising Rashid. He was the dumbest guy, with a simple role to keep the face expressionless.


techies are good with good direction: the movie was supposed to be made like a true life story being captured by hidden camera, and it has been done very well. Cameraman is excellent but has done some faults. Mostly he took the frames in closeup. Sometimes too much is bad. Background music was good and according to the situation. Editing is crisp.


Negatives: Two major negatives for which RGV may have to pay.The movie is very small, hardly 2 hours!( pardon me Godfather was made in triology, and each of abt 3 hours!). Second demirt is that Ramu has indulged ine xcess of detailing which makes the movie very slow.


And both the demirts make one final demerit: The film loses it's cast. No Amitabh, No Abhisheik and all serious powerplay story and it's functioning unfolding. You come out of the hall wishing more to watch Amitabh who has done superb whatever was demanded from him. The movie has very less dialogues.


Final verdict: The movie is strictly for those who love to watch a real life movie captured by hidden cams. It's all serious movie and about a political family and it's functioning. No doubt it is an intelligent movie, but small. Peoples willing to have fun or even to have increased testesterone will be disappointed as even emotional seens have been dealt very practically. no loud sceen.


And certainly it's BIG NO to Godfahter, and BIG YES to Bal Thackeray's world. No need to be confused!


I am not giving this movie 5 stars becuase of the above mentioned drawbacks and it's appeal mainly to the section for intelligent cinema.
