Getting inspired by classic is not wrong but making mess of it is a sin ! That's the case with SARKAR !

SARKAR is just another Hollywood remake which just does not do justice to original .It is a total rip-off from hollywood film THE GODFATHER .Francis Ford Coppola made this classic based on Mario Puzo’s famous novel. Marlon Brando had played the part ‘Don’ Vito Corleone, the head of a New York Mafia ‘family’ in that movie. Al Pacino plays his younger son, Michael Corleone who reluctantly becomes a part of his father's business. James Caan plays Santino 'Sonny' Corleone, the hot-headed son, who gets killed by the rival gang.

It seems as if Ramgopal Verma has lost his touch thanks to the same type of subject he is attempting these days .The look of the film is very similar to his recent flop D although it is not underworld film and add to it the unnecessary violence ,which makes it complete no no .Also there is discussion on politics which does not excite viewer one bit !

Its story and screenplay have been located in an Indian milieu, and particularly so in the context of Mumbai's power superstructure.

Subhash Nagre [Amitabh Bachchan] is running a parallel government in Mumbai who is considered SARKAR by many people .He is a man who has rewritten the law. He has risen, with time and circumstance, to wield unchecked and autocratic authority over the people living in a so-called democratic form of governance.Infact his character is like Shiv Sena supreme Bal Thackeray who is as powerful as law ! Give me a break !

By nature, he possesses the ability, the charisma, the intelligence and the Machiavellian cunning to control the working of the city, in all its various aspects. He even dispenses justice when the common man cannot obtain it from the law keepers - or the government, police and judiciary.

He has two sons .The elder son, Vishnu (Kay Kay Menon), is producing a film while Shankar[Abhisekh Baccha] has just returned from the US after his education. He has a girlfriend, played by Katrina Kaiff, who returns to India with him. Presumably they were classmates. There is also another character, played by Tanisha, who calls Sarkar, Kaka. She is his late friend's daughter and has been in love with Shankar since childhood. She is heartbroken when she hears of his girlfriend but puts up a brave front.

Coming to the conflict that was mentioned earlier. Sarkar antagonizes Rashid (Zakir Hussain) by refusing to let him carry on his illegal business in an area that is under his jurisdiction. To make matters worse for Sarkar, his elder son, Vishnu is rebelling against him. Sarkar's enemies seize this opportunity to get even with him. They also kill his opponent, played by Anupam Kher. Obviously Sarkar is prime suspect and is arrested. There is an attempt on his life but he is saved.

What happens next ?

Those expecting wholesome entertainment are bound to be disappointed big time with SARKAR.The problem with the film is that there are no any relief moments with tensed moments dominating the film and what's more the film preaches into long conversation making it a moral science class .

Another problem is that film is too slow testing the patience of viewer and dialogue are too difficult for common viewer to understand .There are very dragging sequence which gives you enough reasons to make hasty exit mid-way through the film !

However ,the performance are saving grace . Amitabh Bachchan has given his best performance till date .His look ,his style ,his body language is just perfect for this character .

Abhisekh is just mindblowing !To state that he is outstanding will be understatement .K.K. Menon as Abhisekh's brother is just brilliant .Supriya Pathak as Amitabh Bachchan's wife is amazing .

Katrina Kaif is better than her first film BOOM .

In short ,SARKAR is another letdown from Ramgopal Verma .In this age of feel good cinema ,it has no future . After all who is interested in watching such heavy tensions on screen when there is so many tension in real life .Yes ,critics might give it 4-5 stars but general public will give it a cold shoulder .

Not recommended even for first viewing !
