Amongst all the melodramas and bhabhis and devars one refreshing change is Sarabhai V/s sarabhai. Its aired on star one every monday at 9.00 pm and I admit its a comedy with a difference. Its based on a plot of the relationship between a Mother-in-law (MIL)and her daughter-in-law but the presentation is entirely unique. it does not have overdoses of comedy but is a subtle one which will tickle your ribs.
The story revolves around the Sarabhai family consisting of Indravadan sarabhai (dad), Maya sarabhai (mom) ,Sahil sarabhai(elder son) , Monisha (sahils wife) and rosheesh
Indravadan Sarabhai : A supportive father who loves his wife , adores his elder son and somewhat dislikes his younger son rosheesh for his dumbness. HE helps monisha in combating his MIL. Played by satish shah
MAYA Sarabhai : A representative of the hi-fi society which criticises the middle class for their habits and etiquettes. SHE IS shrewd and clever and pinning after Monisha every now and then. Maya tries to mend monisha in her high society mannerisms but has no success. Played by ratna pathak shah
Sahil : A cosmetologist by profession who fell in love with Monisha a middle class girl from the suburbs and married her despite the angst of his mother. Loves his mother and wife equally.
Monisha : A clumsy girl who does not clean her house , argues with the beggar for change, buys things in sale and where she gets something free. played by roopali ganguly
Rosheesh : Mumma's boy. A wanna be poet but writes disastrous poetry.
the entire plot of the serial is such that the natural acting makes one laugh with out any overdoses of comedy. A must watch.
