“DAL, BATI, CHOORMA” . sounds like words out of an old Rajasthani movie scene but one of the very few places that make and serve you authentic Dal Baati Choorma even today is Santosh.
Located besides many others and looks like a normal torn down 3rd class open restaurant very close to the Sindhi camp bus depot of Jaipur. This is where the majority of the crowd boards and alights busses for going or coming to Jaipur. Next to the station on your left facing east is a lane sprawling with restaurants and eating joints. Santosh is just one of them – until you try the food.
The restaurant has 2 levels, the upper level more suitable for families as it is more closed and cozy as opposed to the ground floor which is over crowded always and ever so noisy with the busy street against it. There is no big menu card and the only choice you will find would be scribbled in chalk on the wall above the kitchen. This place is famous for ONLY the traditional Dal Baati of Rajasthan.
The food is in sets – which are fixed priced but the food is unlimited. You can eat as much as you want for as less as Rs. 40 per person. The service is fast and the food is excellent. Not for the weak stomachs as the food is topped with real Ghee. A must try if you are living or visiting Jaipur to get into the Rajasthan skin and understand them a little more better in terms of hospitality and food.
