Santiago! The name itself reminds you of South America. When I returned from the US in 2002, Hyderabad was all changed. New pubs came up. The choice of drinks was vast and some of the best brands I used to drink had gone bad. Back in 1996 when I was devoted drinker of Rum, Old Monk was the name I swore by.

I guess, Mohan had to bring down the quality to fight the price war with Malya. Anyways, in search of a good dark Rum, I explored all the brands and hit upon tow that could be given a ''buy'' rating. One was Bacardi Reserva and the other one is topic of theis review SANTIAGO.

Rum tastes better (or rather should be called a rum) if tis made from sugarcane. That's what santiago is precisely made of.

Santiago is so smooth, you can have it neat or on the Rocks. I am not exaggerating. I really could have it neat. Of Course, the best way to enjoy this Rum is to add a dash of Brown Sugar, a tsp of lemon juice, Ginger Ale and top it up with a dash of Cola. This is the way I like to drink Rum.

Santiago does not give Hangovers like Bacardi. But Mind you, Rum generates a lot of heat in the body and be sure you drink plenty of water when you are on Rum.

The only thing sad about Santiago is that it is out of production. The only place in Hyderabad you can get this is the Agarwal store in Secunderabad and the Giant Hypermarket. You'll be lucky if you get 750ml bottles.

I stocked 24 bottles of this wonderful Rum till recently. I had do gift 8 of them to my friends when I relocated to Chennai. My advice, grab all the bottles from the Market. A Bottle of Santiago cost Rs. 280 at Giant. I wouldn't midn paying even 500 bucks for this. Take my word.
