When Sanjha Chulha first fired its tandoor and lit the ‘chulha’, around 6 years ago, it was a modest place, seating 36 people. Soon this expanded to 60 covers. They had to expand to the first floor and had to add 80 more seats. Shortly, it will have a total of 180 seats, including private dining spaces. All this zooming has been on the wings of their extremely popular Tandoori Murgh.
The place does not have an ideal location. The décor is just about basic with the plus point of effective cooling. Yet, they must be doing something right to make people come from afar and even the outlying suburbs. The answer lies in the consistent quality of their food, translated into an ever-expanding core of appreciative loyalists. Another important reason for this super success has been the constant interaction between the driving duo of Asif Ahmed and Anup Mehrotra with the regulars. The patrons’ views are respected and acted upon. Even though the food is ‘North West Frontier Cuisine’ with the Tandoori Murgh and its portfolio of kebabs being even popular, the eater’s demand for ‘something more spicy’ resulted in the inclusion of ‘Chicken/ Paneer/ Mushroom/ Babycorn 65’, with a strong South Indian spicy influence.
Essentially the food on offer is more ‘North Indian’ than ‘North West Frontier’. After the zoom away success of the Tandoori Murgh, the popularity stakes include Gilafi Seekh Kebab, Zafrani Murgh, Murgh Malai Makhanwala, Peshawari Gosht, Mawabi Murgh, Karahi Paneer, Chana Masala, Tandoori- Pomphret
and Jinga. Mention must be made of their high quality of their tandoori breads and parathas.
