Great! So have decided to research for a phone which suits your requirement, budget and full of features then Samsung Galaxy 3 is an ideal choice for you.

Do your Home Work

I purchased this phone in September 2010, after doing a lots of research in the market and gone through lots of reviews. My criteria were simple:

I wanted a phone with

  • Android based mobile phone

  • Budget phone with range Re 10000/- to 15000/-

  • Average camera, min. 3 MP

  • Good music player

  • Good user interface

  • Good phonebook and contact limit

  • Easy dial options

  • Easy contact/SMS search facility

  • Good memory to download apps

  • Expandable memory

  • Good movie player(to watch movies)

  • Internet browser

  • WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity

  • Range of mobile games etc.

My list was a big one but price was a limit. I finalized HTC Desire and Samsung Galaxy S for myself. I was quite impressed with the quality and features of both the mobile phones, these are marvels in the current market today. But then I wanted more from these phone e.g. front camera, HD quality picture and probably 3D interface. which were missing in these phones. Both phones were in the range from Rs 28000/-, so I thought if I will purchase a mobile phone then I will go with my list otherwise for this price these are not the ideal choice. Also I heard that the new versions of these phones are on the verge of launching.

I was looking for a phone which offers, what these costly mobile phones were offering but with a little less features. may be but definitely with better price tag. Fortunately Samsung launched Galaxy 3 at the same time and I was really impressed with it. The 3.2 inch screen is really bright, the millions of colors support makes it way different than other mobile phones. The sound quality is amazing and competes, even beats 28K range mobile phones. The FM is flawless and 3G connectivity is as smooth as butter.

JigSaw Puzzle

When I purchased the phone, I straight-a-way started exploring the features of it. The first thing I noticed was the notification for SMS and missed calls. It is amazingly coming on the home screen in lock mode itself and the screen turns into a jigsaw puzzle. You complete the puzzle by dragging the SMS or missed call part, this opens the corresponding screen. You can directly read the SMS and view who had called you. Great option!

User Interface

Interface is really intuitive and shortcuts for turning on the Bluetooth, WiFi, Vibration mode and GPS comes very handy through pull down menu on home screen, This is one of the option I really like most.

Home Screens

Galaxy 3 provides upto 7 home screens but do you really need those? I guess make it optimal for better use of battery.

Application Download

Download the applications from Android market, there thousands of free apps and the app screens will keep on adding automatically for you.

Processor and RAM

It has 667MHz ARM processor with 184MB RAM, while memory is expandable to 32 GB. Mine came with 2GB SD card.

Screen

The screen is brilliant but since it not AMOLED, it is difficult in bright sunlight to read but it is still ok. This is where the cost cutting can be seen. The Galaxy S has AMOLED screen which is 4 inch and easy to read in even day light while on the other hand WVGA screens are not that good but in this price you won’t get better than this.

Swype

Since this is full touch screen phone, there is no keypad attached. But Samsung has developed a new way of entering text with Swype technology which is amazing and comes very handy when typing long text. You don’t have to tap the screen again and again, just swipe your finger and navigate from one letter to another to complete the word and system will surprisingly guess the right word for you. This works with amazing accuracy most of the time, and in case it is not able to figure out then it gives you option to select the right word. Great thinking and app.

Music

Another great feature it bags is its music quality. I am really impressed with the quality it delivers. I used headphones which comes with handset. The headset is good and able to deliver the quality music to ears. The very fine and realistic sound delivered with precise finesse. The only wish I had that it would have a better speaker for more louder music output but again probably I am asking more from a phone. after all it is not a music system buddy.

Final Verdict

Go for it, if you are tight on budget otherwise HTC Desire and Samsung Galaxy S should be your choice.
