It took me at least 1 month for deciding which handset to buy after that tragic incident. Let me start with the tragic story of my last handset... it was Sony J70... a cute, sexy looking phone with lots of options... but... one day... after completing its guarantee period, it went dead. It would have cost me more than that of buying a new one to get it repaired. So I thought of saying bye bye to the J70.

As I said... It took me at least one month searching for the perfect phone. I found at least one or more problems with every set. Finally one fine morning, a news ad caught my eyes... 4999 Rs for R220(July 2003). Mouthshut review also helped me to make that fast choice by then. Till now I’m a very satisfied customer of R220. Some of the plus and minus points of the set are given below...

Plus points...

  1. Sturdy

  2. Clarity

  3. Looks

  4. Ease of Use

  5. Good battery backup (3-4 days)

  6. Good backlit (can be used as a torch)

  7. Good price tag (5000 Rs for original, with 1year guarantee)

Minus points...

  1. Low ring volume

  2. Slightly less network coverage

  3. Less number of games (only 3)

  4. Cannot send ring tones

  5. May think its Reliance :) due to the blue light

  6. Don’t have options for changing the skin (like Nokia have)

  7. Not compatible with almost all the funny messages being send(because of the lines/screen and the number of lines that are scrolled at a time).

  8. Less number of ringing tones.

  9. Limited Phone memory (only 100 phone numbers, compared with Sony's 500)

You may now be looking at the above list and wondering why I’m happy then. Its because I believe that the set is worth its money. The difficulties that I’ve faced may be due to the fact that I was using a much advanced handset than this before(of course, costlier.). But the minus points I’ve pointed out can be ignored if you look at the price tag. I’m pretty sure that you wont be getting a better set than this within this price tag at this time(Nov 2003).
